The Indy | A Ruggedly Handsome Messenger Bag. This build guide shows how to make our very rustic messenger / laptop b ag using the PDF Pattern found in the above link. The build goes over cross stitches, making a handle, multi-part gussets, and full assembly. Attach your favorite crossbody strap (or watch the next video on building a quick strap).

I really like this project. I usually make gun support leather and I wanted to open myself to other things and this was first on the list. I downloaded the pattern and made a few changes then I made a pattern out of poster board with leather weights and all materials listed on it. It is now three weeks later and I have all of the pieces cut and all of the holes punched. I'm using a Blacksmith oil tanned leather with a weight of around 4-5 OZ. All of the hardware is solid brass, with the color I'm using I think that will look the best. A few changes I made was to make the back and flap one piece and I made a flap for the back pocket. I also made a hard floor piece for the bottom gusset! Have a good one and I'll be watching for more projects from you!! Mike / 3MP Custom Leather, Kalispell Montana

Those sound like great additions to the design! I like that idea of using poster boards to make the pattern, that should get a lot of use instead of a disposable paper pattern. Thanks for picking up the pattern I hope you enjoyed the build!

Damn it took you three weeks to make some cutouts? I was thinking about making this but three weeks is a long time lol!

Hey, Mike! Do you have pictures of your finished product? A fellow Montanan would love to see it.

A beautiful design and a stunning end result, Kelsyn, congratulations. I just bought the template and I miss the shoulder strap, which you can see in the photos but not in the video, do you know where I can find another template or another video with this strap? Thank you very much in advance, and congratulations on your work. Greetings from Madrid, Spain.

What fork did you use to make those holes in the leather? I am referring to the distance between tines. Thanks again.

Thanks for the kind words! The leather is an Oldtowne from Acadia Leather that I needed to rehab a tad bit due to it being on my leather racks for quite some time. Hit it with some Smiths Leather Balm and it perked right up.
