This is nifty. I was into 1v1 melee combat stuff in high school and our weapons weren't that small in diameter 20 years ago. Thanks for the re-introduction; I am trying to use the quarantine as an excuse to build some gear for my kids and get them doing something active.

I just watched another video before yours where they sprayed some grease into the soda can tube molded around the pipe. Basically like baking where you grease a pan before pouring your cake so that the cake pops out of the pan! If I’m too late to this I’m sorry but I’m just starting in my larp adventure and I thought I’d try to help out anyone else by explaining it in the terms I understand!

Is epoxy tubing the same kind of material as cheap arrows and tent poles?

Great solution to this fundamental problem. Thanks for sharing! A question: Did you try a tight fitting, but sliding soda can tube, so you could move it up a bit at a time with each glue spurt until the length needed was reached? Or did that cause "drag" and not create a solid core?

Love the concept. Seems like a lot of extra work. Could you just shave down a glue stick and heat it up once inserted or is the does it not function the same?

why does it have to be a full two inches out of the core? why not 1 inch or less? will that not also prevent tip failure?

jus shave one end of a 3" glue stick, heat it up on the back to glue it in

From the tip of the core is 2in and striking tip and 1.5in at the non-stricking end. I put the hot glue 1.5in in the core.

We use foam and strapping tape to make a tip/plug

Just a kind of brief question. How much do you make from these weapons? Is it enough to live on or is it just a hobby that supports itself?

Would this form of weaponry for LARPing work for Belegarth rules?

just out of curiosity: is there an upper leangth limit to swords? or: how long could you make a 2 handed sword so that you would stilll be able to play at most fields

Cool idea. Why not skip the whole last bunch of steps and hot glue in a chunk of gluestick? It looks about the same diameter, and it looks like it might be quicker to shape the stick than go through the process of forming one from scratch.

Where do you buy the equipment to make the sword? (Accept for glue stick i can get that at Walmart.)

What are some good alternatives to the core? The only place I can find the epoxy one is the link you gave but shipping is $80 to across the pond :/

where can you get these cores

OR just get a thick glue stick, and glue it into the tube, and put some tape or more glue around the end of the rod to take the edge away, save a few hours fucking around with razor sharp metal and trial and error.

ive seen folk drilling tiny holes at the end of the bar so the hotgleu tip wont ever come out that easy

don't use pipe tape for vents, use green painters tape

man that seems to be a pain in the butt... The act of leaning on tips kills them. (I'm sure you know this) I just watch the kids that are playing with my weapons.Rules be I catch you leaning once you get a warning/another detailed explanation of why not to I catch you twice I switch your weapon for a shorter one (this is a good intensive) I catch you three times I give the weapon to a kid that is waiting on the side lines... I inspect my weapons often (usually after every battle) Re-tipping the swords I make is easy enough :D but all this being said cool idea!

In the video you use a soda can to make the glue tip; have you found anything that you can use to make a longer one? its for a larp hammer.

Hi! I would like some OPINIONS on this construction idea: but FIRST A STORY! I was making a full contact boffer and used bamboo core + pool noodle. my roommate came in a took it and smacked me with it. It HURT LIKE... alot. He did it a few times before we heard some cracking... uh oh... but then Eurika! I cracked it even more, and the sword was still intact, and the bamboo fibres were still held inside the pool noodle and EVEN BETTER: it was much safer because the sword became IMMENSELY FLEXIBLE! It was so flexible that I could hit full strength without it hurting too much, and I could hit someone with a shield and the sword flexed around their guard! What do people think about using Splintered Bamboo as a core? (splintered AFTER the bamboo is contained within the foam) (I'm reposting this on a couple people's videos. hope you don't mind)
