A tutorial on how to make an ocean/water simulation with LEGO bricks as the water
Bricks used in video (You can parent as many on the plane as you want):
1x1 Brick (#3005)
1x1 Pip/Stud (#4703)
Free Ocean Add-On: blendermarket....
Add in Blender: Edit/Preferences/Add-ons/Install/Open File/Check Box
You can also use a manual Ocean Modifier with a plane for more control
Music: Peacefully by E's Jammy Jams
Instructions:
Use an Ocean Modifier on a plane or an Ocean Add-On
Import your ocean brick
Add a remesh modifier to the ocean plane
Change it to blocks
Move it above the ocean modifier
Change the Depth to around 6
Go to Object, instancing, and select vertices
Shift-select the brick and plane
Press Control P to parent and keep transform
Adjust the scale to fit the ocean
To adjust the brick overlap, add a lattice
Adjust the scale to fit the ocean plane
Go to the lattice tab
Change the V and W resolution to 5
Click Tab to enter edit mode
Select all with A
Adjust the X and Y scale to adjust the brick overlap
Enter the Shader Editor and Rename
Add a Diffuse BSDF
Add a Mix Shader
Connect a Glossy BSDF
Add another Mix Shader
Connect a Transparent BSDF
Add another Mix Shader
Connect a Glass BSDF
Connect it to the Material Output
Adjust the values to 0.75, 0.6, and 0.03
Change the Glossy BSDF Roughness to 0.3
Add a Multiply Color to Diffuse BSDF
Change the Factor to 0.2
Connect a Color Ramp
This is your ocean color
Change the low node to a dark blue
Add another in the middle of a lighter shade
Add another closer to the white of an even lighter shade
Add a Gradient Texture
Connect a Mapping Node
Connect an Object Info in Location
Change the Y value Mapping Rotation to 90 degrees
Change the Color Ramp Multiply to A
Add the Random Object Info into B
This will slightly alter the color
You can change the mapping values to adjust the wave colors and at what height they occur
You can also change the color ramp to Constant for less color gradation
Click the Ocean plane and change the shader to your brick color
You can also have other brick pieces as the ocean, such as studs
You can adjust the ocean's waves by using the sliders in the add-on or modifier
