How to make a tile lighted LED Niche in a shower. These LED lights can be used as accent lights or night lights. I like to pair them with a Lutron DIVA low voltage dimmer in order to get a wide range of lighting capabilities. Join us as the TILEcoach Team installs a Schluter DECO-SG Profile with a LED strip light, converted to lowcolatage using a magnetic dimmable driver/transformer. Kerdi waterproofing system using the Kerdi-Niche. An entertaining, detailed, instructional and educational video.

Loved Issac's idea about LED in shower niche. Next week begins my remodeling our shower from plastic/fiberglass to 600mm x 600mm Calcutta porcelain, just unloaded 24 tiles over 350 lbs from wood skid in front of garage and moved to bathroom area. I purchased from Creative Lighting Solutions an LED flex strip using IP68 LEDSs-RGB . IP68 are completely water proof and RGB means lights can be controlled to be red, green or blue. This strip will go into notch as you did in the video, also I purchased WiFi switch and inverter AC 120 to 12 volt dc. I am now trying to find a 12 volt LED RGB IP68 shower ceiling light 3-4 inch diameter. any readers have suggestions.

That’s an awesome way of doing it. My wife and I own a bathroom remodel business in NH, she does the design and I do the work. We always look for ways to separate ourselves from everyone else. Seeing you have a successful bathroom remodel business gives us hope for growth. The light in the niche is popular in Europe but not so much here. I would love to know about how to price something like this out for my clits. Does not seam like the components are too expensive, but the work works sick!

Thank you very much ,as I was going to drill three small holes and install three single 5mm leds in a 26” long niche top, but luckily I seen your idea in time . So instead , now I’m going with a tri coloured led strip with an rf remote so I can change the brightness and colour . And yes the electronics are in the basement under the bathroom , not located in an area I can’t get access too. Using that profile is a fantastic idea imo

Dude your awesome. I’m an electrician and am remodeling our bathrooms now. I’ve come across the lighted niche only on pintrest from my wife getting ideas and I didn’t really know how i was going to do it. My first thought was to get a track with a lense from WAC lighting and use the led strip in that but the whole WEDI thing is pretty awesome and I will do that

Most DIY lighting stuff that I have seen for permanent fixture applications such as this use blocks of polished acrylic glued/sealed in place, with the led strip hidden on the other side. The acrylic diffuses the light so it all looks smooth, and also makes it so that the structure can stay in-tact while the led’s can later be replaced if needed. So, in this example, instead of running the led strip through the side of the niche, you would instead put like a 1”x1”x8” polished acrylic block up into the top back of the niche so that the top of the block is sticking up through the niche. You’d then glue/seal it in place. Then you would would stick the led strip to the top of the block so that it is shining down through the block and into the niche. Preferably, there would be an access panel on the other side of the wall to change out the led’s if the ever burn out. Then you would have a permanent and sealed structure in the shower itself, with no electrical components tied to it, while also having it both lighted and accessible for maintenance. The same methodology could be use for other cases as well, such as an acrylic shelf within the niche with the acrylic sticking through the sides of the niche into the wall and the led’s being on both sides shining into the shelf so it has a soft lighted glow, in a lighted acrylic chair rail, etc. Try RU-vid’ing “led acrylic” or something like that for ideas. There’s also fiber optics that some very high end contractors use, with thick fiber optic cords that split into like a hundred that they then place into concrete work, with a thing in the attic that shines light into it through rotating diffuser lenses, so that it looks like stars are twinkling in the concrete when it’s turned on. I watch too much RU-vid lol

I never thought of using the shluter profile , great idea . In my case I was going to install 3 separate - 5mm leds , mainly as a night light , but this idea is tempting also. Seeing as I could use RBG and a controller to choose the colour and brightness , I think I’m going with your idea .
@YannisFyssas
@YannisFyssas Год назад
The problem with using RBG is that you need more wires inside the wall, and more soldering on the strip itself. The solder points and the strip are the weakest point so when they fail, it will be difficult to replace teh LED strip. Using non coloured LEDs simplifies this as there are only two solder points and less likely to fail.
@crisnmaryfam7344
@crisnmaryfam7344 Год назад
@@YannisFyssas For rgb you only need a 4 pack of tiny gauge wire. Its not like you are installing another full run of 12-2 romex.
@crisnmaryfam7344
@crisnmaryfam7344 Год назад
@@YannisFyssas you also dont need to solder. They make water tight connectors for this purpose, they snap into place like some other connectors used for romex. just smaller. Then its not a permanent connection, and if you need to change it out its easy peasy.
@crisnmaryfam7344
@crisnmaryfam7344 Год назад
Amazon sells a channel that is the same as the Schluter but without the tile/grout part. They also sell diffusers so you dont see the hot spots on the wall or whatever you are installing them with. RU-vid "DIY RGB diffuser" and youll find what im talking about. The tile stuff s great for this purpose but If you wanted to do something you arent using grout with, say a ceiling line accent, the amazon channels can be fixed with a screw under the rgb strip and diffuser so as not to be see.

Very nice.You do great work and make awesome videos. I split the top tile in half compensating for the width of the aluminum channel of course. I find placing the LED at half way point throws the light better. If you look for a local LED store they do have the proper aluminum channels for LED strips that come with a clouded cover to diffuse the light better. Then seal with clear caulking. Overall Good job. LED Everything!!!!!
