Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) engines, drives and thrusters are talked about everywhere these days. They are featured in nuclear rockets going to Mars and in submarine movies like "The Hunt for Red October". How does it actually work? In this set of tests we are running a simple MHD unit in water so you can see it actually in action and perhaps build your own.

Hi John, i have patent a simple design that utilizes the trust produced by MHD on the theta axis of rotating current. The concept extracts the gravitational potential energy of a magnetical confined plasma by destabilising the Birkeland current of the theta pinch. Regards Scott

This is the Lorentz effect. Also, there is a vortex you cannot see with the small end horizontal at the negative block. The small end of that vortex is driving the water in coordination with the spin that the magnet is putting on it.

in terms of the magnet u used, how come u placed the magent at the bottom, would u not need the south pole of the magnet and the north pole ontop the container, or does the orentation of the magnet not effect the magnetic field?

Show me propulsion using this on a model or toy boat i can see it creates current the water moves but can it propel a vessel

Can you build a similar concept but employing solenoids and AC on plates so you would get e-mHD (electro-magnetic hydro-dynamics) It done with correct resonant frequency without going overboard on the hysteresis you should abolish all electrolosys and thus gain a better propulsion. yamoto 1 did 8knots but they calculated 100knots with EMHD (ACMHD) but were stopped and last minute went with DCMHD which is electrolosys prone

It looks like there is more flux being created by the magnet on the left. Hardly any bubbles or spiral motion comes from the copper bar on the right. Why such a large visible discrepancy? Also is the magnetic vortex linear or does it form a spiral?

We're looking at that too. Our electrodes are offset to each other. We found in mach flow we get more performance. I think in the water it just makes the flow direct more to one side.

Absolutely, there's been a few full size boat that use them and lots of RC ones.
