Here is the making of the last panel on the JZ COBRA concept car reshell. A step by step process to help you learn how to do it yourself. As always clay is used to get the shape from which a panel is made up and finished. If you want to see how the rest of the JZ COBRA concept car was made with clay then please see other videos or click on this link to view one of my other videos • Developing a concept f...
Feel free to ask questions. I am always interested in doing exotic car concepts using real Ferrari, Lamborghini or Maserati etc sports cars as donor cars. I am able to take any one of these cars and turn them into a concept car of your dreams. Be the first to do this outside of any factory. If you are wealthy then why not be the first person in the world to turn your exotic supercar into a concept car of your dreams. The fast and the furious movies inspired people to change the look of there cars. Now I am showing you how to design your own car by your own hand and become a real fast and a real furious car designer in real life. This IS the next level!!

very true. that makes a lot of sense. i think the same can be said for the engineers who push cars past their limits in terms of performance. that takes a special talent not many have. the Ford GT for example with Shelby and Miller. that thing was a beautiful machine that still stands to this day more than 50 years later. if thats not art, i dont know what is.

Play-doh will Dry, shrink, and crack while working with it so that's no good. I've never tackled a project of that size but I use Sculpey for small stuff. Sculpey is a polymer clay that holds its shape very well and wont dry on you unless its baked.

@S1KRYD
@S1KRYD 7 лет назад
Todd Broman Hey that was really cool. It would cost about 5K to do the back end of this car in that tooling clay. Not bad. But potters clay would cost about 1500. So I guess it depends on your budget and use. The tooling clay gets old and at some point cant be used again. The potters clay can be used indefinitely even if it dries out. But the tooling clay is good to make a direct fiberglass mold from which will save lots of labor and time.
@preditor282
@preditor282 7 лет назад
right on, i live in the south so its too hot and humid for potters clay. I found that the most affordable way has been a layer up as close as possible with of cardboard, poor foam, sand it back about 1-2 inches below the working plane cover it then build up with tooling clay
@JuanHernandez-ub3ez

+STIGZ you ever heard of polyurethane foam and small layer of molding clay?it would take me max of 500 dollars because I get the clay used in prototype modeling just ask around in car prototypes shop

S1KRYD I've needed to make a scoop for a long time to cool a custom turbo build I did this has given me the confidence to give it a try. I'm familiar with fiber glassing just not shaping the clay from scratch. Is it a special kind of clay I should use? Also do you need some kind of release agent besides the packing tape you used or is that good enough?
@S1KRYD
@S1KRYD 10 лет назад
Rubber Duc Yes you can make your scoop very easy using this method. Use potters clay. Be sure to keep the clay moist. When finished Cover the clay with tin foil to separate the wet clay from the fiberglass materials. Use the packaging tape over the tin foil because tin foil loves fiberglass and will stick like crazy to it. No release agent is needed because you are not trying to release from a female mould. You are only trying to release from wet clay and tin foil.

You CAN use Rock instead of electronic music, but then your panel will turn out looking like a late 1970's Mustang II or Ford Pinto. (When Rock was best) Do you really want your car to look like that?

If I had a '76 Cutlass and I wanted to make custom bodywork like this (Which looks amazing by the way) to make it look like the 6000 SUX from Robocop, what would you suggest?
@S1KRYD
@S1KRYD 10 лет назад
Very interesting. You will need to clay the whole car like I did with this project and make a set of panels to attach to your car.
@Voivrenetwork
@Voivrenetwork 10 лет назад
So remove the original panels and toss em, and stick clay to the car directly so it fits, since I doubt I'd need the old paneling for much else.
@areitu
@areitu 10 лет назад
Another approach I've seen--to cut down on how much clay you need, you can also attach blocks of foam to the car (with the original body panels still on it) and sculpt that down, and use clay for the small details. From there you can either pull a mold and make fiberglass parts from it and attach them to the original body panels, or do what S1KRYD did in this video where he creates the fiberglass piece off of it and attaches it back on.
@S1KRYD
@S1KRYD 10 лет назад
areitu This is a good idea. But if you are going to pull a mould from off your clay you will not be able to use potters clay to do this. You would have to use the expensive Y2 clay or equivalent. This will cost you 10s of thousands.

I love everything I just saw until I recognized the platform that this awsome work of art was based on, I just think the JZA80 body is perfect the way it is, but kudos to the artist on the work?
@S1KRYD
@S1KRYD 8 лет назад
Thanks mate. Yes some love the car until they realize that the platform that was used is the JZA80. They feel that people should not mess with the original JZA80. I actually think the unmodified ones are ugly ducklings until modified. But truth is if I did not use this car it would still be rotting in the field I found it with no engine or gear box in it. Now it is a work of art with the vvti turbo 2JZ engine and the getrag 6sp box. A nice but rear compo for a car that was going to be sold as scrap metal and crushed and sent to the Chinese to make spaghetti cans :)

I'll have to admit. At first I thought your new panel was solely going to be made from clay, so I thought the added weight, and the actual durability of the clay would have to be a huge disadvantage. Then you did the foil layer and the fiberglass and I shut up real fast lol. That's pretty badass tho, one could actually design countless items using these same principals, you my friend are a god damn genius.
