The pantograph design is good but the BEST thing about this video is how a loving father is patiently and attentively coaching his daughter, it is so rare that a parent has time and willing to help and teach his child anything! Bravo
I wish I had a father who would have done this with me when I was a kid....and had the patience to do it. KUDOS to you for that...and for sharing...I liked the step by step instructions !!! Thanks for sharing. Molly, you have a great dad !!
Thanks! I'm sure whether you are a kid or an adult, there is a place or a need to learn/teach someone your skills. Maybe scouting, high school kids, neighbors, maker spaces, extended family, Etc. Hope you find that.
very nice. i do have some questions, if you have artwork (large image) drawn on a 8x10 paper & wanted to enlarge the artwork onto a 14 x 22, what should the length of pieces for a Pantograph ?
Well, I'm not sure I'm qualified to answer that! But, I'll try. First off, 8x10 is more of a square than 14x22, so you would have some extra space in the 22" direction. The way I would think about it is the ratio or scale factor of the enlargement. In your example, 14 is 1.75 times as large as 8. So, I believe you would drill a hole at for the center pivot of the first arm at a ratio of 1.75 times the length. So, let's say your long arm is 12" from pin to pin centers and your short arm is 6" from pin to pin center. If you drill the hole in the long arm at 6 inches, that would be a scale factor of 2 since it's halfway, or 12/6=2. You want to know 12/?=1.75, which would 6.85" for the hole in the long arm. In the pantograph we made in the video, I think I stated it as a factor of 2, but in reality, we drilled our holes at centers of 11" and 5", so we really had a factor of 2.2. Confused yet? I am! I think the best thing you can do is just make one and experiment with it. I'm sure there's something out there on the web that has pantograph formulas or charts. Good luck, let me know what you come up with.
Hi, I just stumbled across this video. It is excellent!! A great way to spend time with your kids for so many reasons. This is particularly great for this current time with COVID lockdowns. Well done. Stay safe and well :) [edit] Those plastic lettering and shape stencils come to mind here to help trace with the stylus.
put other hand on the stylus and you get more control. your test originals are too small to demo the tool well. also you did not say that use different holes you can get other scales like 1.5x, 3x. Put a weight on the pencil and hand on the stylus. better control. Go the other way to reduce.
Try holding the pencil that's over the photograph, instead and follow the lines on the photo while the pencil on the drawing paper moves over the paper on it's own drawing out and duplicating what's on the photo. It's harder the way you're doing it. Just saying...
Self Made Project adding a little weight to the pencil side should work. Maybe using coins to add a little weight start with one and keep going till it feels and writes good! Play doh could possibly work too itta got a little weight to it and doesn’t need to be glued on. Or poster rack...this might be better. It’s dense so it weighs more and doesn’t need anything else to attach it since it’s an adhesive....I say that loosely...itself. Oh and BTW I am making your recipe for the pantograph tomorrow!!! I also just bought clear rollers to try it with those too.
Put weight on the pencil doing 3 drawing to keep it in contact with service you are drawing on and hold middle pencil in your hand while tracing picture. Much more accurate results. Nice job bonding with child need more like you
boa noite, estou tentando ampliar um desenho que alcance 1m² com um pantografo caseiro, mais não estou,vc poderia min dizer alguma dica ou alguma sugestão. desde já te agradeço pela leitura dessa mensagem e também pela resposta.
Nothing wrong with using hindu - arabic numbers ? Why you discriminate on imperial measurement? Do you know how hards is for china to make things that can fit an American product?
WHAT AN FOOL YOU ARE FOR PUTTING THAT RAZOR KNIFE IN THAT LITTLE GIRLS HAND! SHE OBVIOUSLY HAD KNOW IDEA HOW SHARP AND WHAT DAMAGE THE KNIFE COULD DO! AND IT'S NOT BECAUSE SHE'S TOO YOUNG TO LEARN, BUT YYYYYOOOOOUUUUU NEED TO TEACH THEM SAFETY!
