[Instructional Book] Paracord Fusion Ties Volume 1: amzn.to/2VR8Arl
The paracord dog leash is a tie I've been holding onto (nearly) since I began working with paracord. Starting off with a clean (innovative) way of connecting a looped cord to a snap hook, the leash continues forward with a standard Solomon Bar. The addition of a second cord, enables you to finish the leash with a Two Colored Solomon Bar that makes for a sturdy tether. Shown here as a 2 foot long leash (with a 6 inch long tether), the measurements provided could easily be doubled or tripled depending on the leash length you wish to have. Video production by J.D. Lenzen of Tying It All Together.

i like that you took your time instead of just making the cord. because people can actually make it with you instead of pausing the video rewinding it and trying to figure it out. very clear and concise! thanks for taking the time to make the video! looks super cool and were going to try it!

Thank you so much for the video! I love the fact that you showed every move and allowed us a few seconds to make sure that we were doing it right. Some people move way too fast.

Very well done - your slow teaching techniques are quite valuable to those who are just beginning with paracord. Since your comments are 99.9% positive, I'm sure you've learned to ignore the psychos that search the internet in an unending quest to vilify someone or something they lack the intellect to appreciate. Thankfully, we do have freedom of speech, as well as the freedom to simply ignore what we don't like. Sadly, there will always be a minority that refuse to take advantage of the latter. Keep doing what you're doing - the majority of us enjoy it - including the music.

I have a six foot version of this leash I made that holds back a 80 lb German Shepard with no problem. The cord used is called 550 paracord, as a single strand is rated for a 550 lb load. :)

Once you get the repetition going, building the rope is fairly simple. I looked at more than 6 or 8 methods and this is the easiest and best for a beginner... get your feet wet and then move on to something more difficult... this is exactly what I was looking for... Ingenious... the only draw back to this method is if you want a 5 foot leash, you will have to us 100 feet of paracord... at about $10 bucks....

Great vid, much appreciated. Didn't make a leash out of it (although I'll likely make one of this, too) but used the method to make a hanging strap to help kids get in to my Jeep. The only difference is that instead of the clasp at the beginning I used one half of a buckle, and then wove the other half of the buckle in about 8" down. Now it goes right over the roll bar, buckles in to itself, and then hangs down about a foot and a half with a grab loop on the end. Works perfectly... again, thanks for the great vid.

I agree. I used a heavier hook I purchased from a Farmers co-op that was meant for a horse halter.
@chris7662

SIZING: I wanted a leash 48" long overall and that's including the 6" loop. So, I used one piece 64'-0" long and kept the second piece at 6'-0" as recommended. When I was finished, I cut two 10'-0" waste pieces off the 64'-0" piece of cord. Which means I could've used a 46'-0" piece to begin with and still have a foot or so left for the final tightening. Just offering some personal observations...that's all.

Solomon bar work in paracord seems to use about one foot of paracord per inch of finished length. Remember, the paracord is folded in half, and the core takes up two and a half feet in this leash design.

I fold the loop over at the end to double the paracord inner strands for the handle. And i don't go to the middle i go to the slightly off side for the handle, then i tuck 2 ends I'm finished with and knot them with the other 2 ends. It makes it feel stronger (to me anyway as i have 2 big powerful dog's) i essential used your technique though this is the best one i liked i found thank you 😀

I'm watching the video with the music muted using the icon provided by RU-vid... so after you create the 2 loops, ingenious I must say, having watched several other videos, especially if you are a novice... so what you start with are 4 strands, 2 are open ended, the long strands and 2 are the loop, the shorter strands.. the two outside open strands are then braided over the 2 inside looped strands...

I'd use a loop at the snap end to go through the snap ring and then up and over the head of the snap and slide down into place. This is because if the snap ever breaks you would have to cut the ring off and have no way to put another snap on. With a loop, you could just take the leash off and get another snap.

Why not ? The only weak part may be the metal hook, i'd say. I saw some that couldn't resist a very hard pull, so i think you should choose a really tough hook if you have an heavy dog or hard pulling dog. And the shorter is the better too, for hard pulling or heavy dogs.

Letters from a Psychopath When you consider that some of us have been watching and appreciating JD's videos for a long time, *and* the fact that he has done hundreds of them, on his own time, simply for us to enjoy and learn from *and* that there are dozens of other people who post videos that you are free to watch...then yes, we do take it a little seriously. Not to pick on you specifically, but it amazes me, reading the comments for these videos how immature, demanding and self-centered people are who are getting something for free. You might get a better reaction if you offer *polite,* constructive criticism rather than sarcasm.

If you don't like the music... there is an icon at the bottom of the viewer on the left... click one time and silence is golden... Question: at the 1:26 point the I assume 32 foot piece is shortened to 2 16 foot pieces and then pulled through eye of the hook down to 2.5 feet and 2 loops created. you now have 4 strands... what is the length of each of the 4 strands?

Hey guys i have a couple of question about this leash. Firstly - Thank you for showing us this fantastic video on how to make a leash, this is a great video and will help me out a lot when i find some time to make two of these leashes, one will be for my puppy and the other one will be for my parents and their dog as a little christmas present (i can already tell that both my parents will absolutely love their christmas present, first and only reason is their son made it and because I would have put a lot of time, effort and love into making them a present instead of buying something plus they will get a lot of use and enjoyment out of it) Secondly - Roughly how much paracord would i need to make a leash that is between 1.5m - 2m? Thirdly - I have a real big strong energetic dog, so far she has broken five leashes and I dont really want to keep buying leashes every time she breaks one, so when i saw this video i thought that this is a great idea and would be a fun little project i could do. Roughly how much weight and strain do you think this leash could take before it breaks? Fourthly - When you get to the handle instead of doing half and half then meeting in the middle of the handle, would it be possible if you could start on one side and make your way all the way around the handle and finish on the other side where the lead meets the handle? Would it be to difficult to make the handle that way or just as easy as doing half and half? Thank you for sharing this video and for any tips or advice that you could give me, i would really appreciate any help or advice. I apologize for the really long comment, it was only ment to be short but it sort of turned into an essay lol. Cheers Luke

Idc what anyone says I loved this video. I've never made a paracord anything & I figured since I had a lead break recently I now have two clasp hooks so an extra leash or two would come in handy for all four of my dogs! I'm a little confused about the video versus the measurements though. In the beginning it says I need 32ft plus 6ft for the handle, but when typing the snake bite to the clasp I barely saw any for being pulled through. Is this because the required length would've taken too long to demonstrate the initial knot? Or should I not use 32ft to start? Never done anything like this and I really want to get it right not only because my fur babies are my life, but because the type and color I bought is going to make it a high visibility leash which I don't have right now. Thanx for any answer in advance!

Hi, Just wanted to say, I have been wondering how to make the hand loop of a dog leash for a couple of months now. This is so easy to follow. Thank you so much J. D. Jasper my furry companion is going to love this. I have your three books & looking forwrd to the new issue. Now I know how to fashion the hand loop my brain is laterally thinking of other sinnets and bars to use. I love the Icelandic Dream Bar and intend to try that as a leash too. I think my Dog walking companions might be a little envious.

I am beyond confused that or I just don't have the hand strength to pack 29 feet of cord into 2 feet of cord. So you pull through until you have 2.5 feet left as your open ends? Or you only pull through2.5 feet leaving your open ends yo be 29.5?

Say I wanted to make a 3 foot leash with the same handle. Would I pull the cord through to 3 ft or 3 1/2 ft? I'm guessing 3 1/2 to allow for the 3 ft for the leash and the 6 in for the handle...
