I've been making slings since I was 14 and I'm now 43. I've done them all. After watching this I feel like I just saw the discovery of fire. Simple. Ingenious. you can use your bootlace when you get to the creek.
Went and actually tried this, the stones need to be shaped just right or they'll slip out. Also need to screw with the "pouch" strings alot to get them in the right place around the stone. Just go for a pouch made from some old jeans or something.
Good guide to a simple sling. This is the design I teach people when they want to get started, so easy and so quick once you know what you're doing. Now I carry spare lengths of paracord in my pockets to makes slings if people want a go :P
Hey there! Thank you for making this video, i stumbled across it after a handful of videos that made it too complicated for me. I normally shoot slingshots but this seems even simpler, when it comes to building materials and ammo... and way more powerful. I did it right first time and then did it a second time to adjust the lenghts of everything to me. Simple, effective.. just as your tutorial. I will get more into paracord and knots and stuff, maybe i will manage to make a real pouch with some practice, but i think this will do the job for now. Thank you, Sir. Greetings from Germany. And all of you, have a nice day.
Thanks for the video! Now I got a rock sling for my expedition. The area I'm going through doesn't allow firearms, but a rock sling in a place full of billions of rocks is perfect for self defense. I need to practice with it for a while though so I can get good at using the sling.
Paracord guild I finally learned the better rock sling. With the bunny ears loop d loops and over under over under weaving pattern. It was a pain but I needed one since me and my sis went exploring in the woods and we had no weapons to scare of wild dogs.
+Secret User That's right brother, if you practice often you will find yourself becoming deadly after 7 months or so. This weapon sacrifices training time for simplicity. But unlike archery that can be learned in a week or two, you will be gratetful for being able to kill with only the rocks on the ground. A good exchange ;-)
+Saint Michael I agree in essence. But proper archery, that used in warfare and survival does take even longer than that. I remember reading that after the battle of Lepanto for example, the Ottomans could no longer maintain the archery tradition due to the loss of their best archers. Any weapon requires training much beyond the limited time we usually have in the modern world. Mark
Thanks for the video. What an easy, simple method. As one who always tries to keep a length of paracord nearby and handy, I was very happy to find your video and easy to follow instructions. Out of all that I have found, your method is absolutely the fastest and simplest.
I like this, very easy to do. First knot is a bowline. Flip it over and tie the second knot as a bowline around the loop of the first bowline. As a challenge for myself, I am learning to tie this with one hand only and not using the body or anything to trap one end of the line.
Mine didn't seem to be a very effective sling... I found it really hard to not drop the rock. But it did help me solve the random challenge I gave myself and was obsessing with all morning: I had a large bottle of body wash, and wanted to lash it in such a way that there's no possible way for it to slip off the bottom because there just isn't enough slack in any direction no matter what. Even though it's rounded and kind of slippery. Arbitrary rules I invented: Need to be able to do it with one solid piece of cord 10 ft or less. Ideally, the simpler and more elegant the solution the better. Wracked my brains for a few hours trying to lash it like a package, then thinking I'd have to use like a weave or make at least a little bit of a net... But this did the trick perfectly. Only hard part is getting it to be exactly the right size. I'm sure this can be useful for a lot of other things too.
I think in purely survival terms this sling is the best one I found on YT so far because - if needed - you can make it in few minutes and start to hurl rocks and headshot them zombies trying to climb into your shleter and bite you ... but I proly digress. Great video tho ;)
Should be about 18-28 inches from loop to pouch. 4-6 feet of paracord should be plenty. Depends on your arm length and if you prefer a short swing or long swing.
This type of sling should be used for practice with softer things like golf balls or other substitutes as if you use a rock they can slip out of the pouch if it is to small or too big and go behind you, above you, or just fall out prematurely. Just be safe and once you get a hang of it I heavily encourage you to make a better sling to actually sling rocks in.
You mean the lenght from the 2 knots to the loop? A simple way of checking it is p[utting your arm straight down and measuring the lenght between your hand and the ground. This lenght should not be smaller than the distance between the 2 knots and the loop.
Just about any length of a thin, flexible material would do, so long as it's strong enough to handle the kinetic forces when spinning around. Slings are simple, genius, and incredibly hard to master.
Either I’m fucking retarded or somthing I can’t seem to make slings at all I can sling a rock 80 feet into a 4x4 square wood But NOOO I CANT MAKE ONE THINK IM DUMB
This design is very dangerous. You will find yourself losing stones. The stones often slip through the pouch, or fall outside. I've tried it again and again. I've tried adjusting it to make it safer, but too often I lose stones straight up where they crash down near me or I send them straight behind me, because the pouch is unreliable. I don't recommend this at all.
Try taking another piece or cordage and weave through the pouch section in an over under pattern until its tight then secure the end pieces and it should hold.
Get a big enough stone that matches the size of the pocket or a secondary string and weave it under and over, back and forth through the horizontal strings it’s really easy
Get a secondary string that weaves over and under the horizontal strings in the pocket it’s easy. Primitive technology has a sling video and that’s what he does if you need a reference
ngl the severe injury statement is an understatement if you fuck around with it when theres people in front of you and you hit them they could very easily die
Anonymous ? The rock pouch and the knots do not take a whole lot of cord. You should calculate the length considering the length of the sling that you need. Basically, it is personal preference, although some say, that the sling should be so long, that it stretches from your extended arm holding the end, to your knees. This is just one of the "rules" you can use. As said, though, it is a matter of preference as well as a persons height. Mark
@@Paracordguild no a reference to how they're getting bombed and retaliating with stones. Im sure Palestinians know how to sling better than anyone on Earth
Well, a Berzerker slinger is naturally more prone to accidents. Goes hand in hand! Khorne despises most ranged combat though, so you should be slinging skulls at the least. Mark
When you sling, you want one end of the sling left in your hand and the second end released. You use the loop on the first end by putting it on your finger so that it stays in your hand when you release your hold. The knot on the second end is supposed to help you determine in which place you should hold the rope. I hope I helped you :-)
The stopper knot provides weight which increases the momentum of the sling when u let go and a good “trigger” to hold onto while the bowline knot at the other end keeps it on your finger
+Doug Bauer You don't need measurements. Just take a long cord and start from the middle. Then go out and put the release and retention cords exactly where you want them. But to be honest, this is not a good sling design because it does not hold stones very well and is dangerous.
+Captain Cook Go to your tool gear icon at bottom of display screen and select "Speed" then select 0.5 x speed. This works well when you need to have people hurry up by selecting 1.25X. CHeers!
+Paracord guild also can you explain it better and show us the parts you are moving and what it should look like sometimes your hands cover it or you use vague descriptions
