Thanks for a thorough explanation of what and how you propagate hoyas. It addressed many questions I had, including re-use, opening and closing, acclamation to soil. Also wanted to say, thanks for keeping this chill and now “hyped” with over enthusiasm etc.
OK... I NEED To Be Pulling Out My Bag Of Perlite Today!!! All The Plantlets Looked SO Pretty And Healthy... The Polyneura Were Flipping Their Tails At ME!!! I Gotta Go Look At Some Prices On Them TODAY!!! See YOU Next Video E.P.!!!
Excellent information in this video. It answered a question I had after watching another video, plus more very helpful information. I'm very new to taking care of a hoya and needing to propograte. Pretty sure I've GOT this now! Thanx so very much!
Thank you SO much for this video! I have been wanting to make a perlite prop box after seeing how successful your cuttings are, but I had no idea how to go about it. Thanks again!!
I'm new to propagating in any medium besides water but definitely trying this! Sphagnum makes me a bit nervous because I never know how moist it has to stay and I also worry about mold 🤣 thank you so much!
Ya, I always hate running to the sink so this was a nice solution to that problem lol I bought it at Canadian TIre, but I haven't seen it there recently.
Mine gets a small little sliver of direct light throughout the day, but that just risks algae. Just place it a bright area and see how it does. Near a window is fine, but it doesn't have to be on a sill or anything like that. Even near a grow light will be perfect.
Thank you. I am going to try this method with different cuttings. I would love to try & propagate a string of hearts, turtles, pearls & dolphins. Wish me luck! 😊
Yay...I'm finally feeling a lil more comfortable about using perlite. I really don't propagate because I dislike s.moss so much. Love your videos. Thank you for being so informative!!!!
Question: have you ever put a small humidifier meter in the box to see what it’s actually sitting at out of curiosity? Great video too thanks. I have a 1020 container and vented lid with wet sticks in them and was told to keep it at 70%. The only time I get condensation is when it sits at 90% plus and I started getting a little rot on one cutting. Even while opening every day to let more air in (even though there’s vents). So now I leave the box partially open to sit at 70ish always. So I was just really curious to see what your sealed containers sit at without causing rot. Looks like it would be 100% plus?? Thanks 😊
I made a prop box using perlite after your first two videos recommending it. Although I normally use water for rooting, the prop box successfully got some of my hoya and tradescantia cuttings to root! It's a fun alternative rooting method to water, especially when I plan to pop the rooted cuttings in with the mother plant. Thanks for continuing to update your community on how your own prop box is doing. 👍
I put mine in glass jar with perlite. A little water. Roots wonderful alocasia Polly in it. And a few others. Keep up the good work. I need to see more videos. Lol
@@EverythingPlants ok. Because of I am doing propagation box. Only 3 cuttings so far. But mine are baby plants. Well at least the ones I want to propagate. Lol. Please do more videos. I need one on string of hearts
Have you ever tried to root monstera adansonii, scindapsus or Philadendron Brazil in perlite? I usually water propagate. I have a few plants that need to be cut back and would like to try this method.
Yes I have...scindapsus take so long in water, but once they got placed in perlite it got roots within 2 weeks. The brazil and adansonii would have no issues in the perlite either.
I "try" to not let them touch the perlite, but thats almost impossible. Where I really try to prevent contact is with the sides of the container as there is always condensation on the sides.
Hey Jerry. Personally I have not had an issue with algae at all with my prop boxes, but I have had it with small cuttings in perlite. I have also had a few comments from others saying they got an algae issue. If that happens I would place it in a bit of lower light or even try covering the sides
It’s amount of moisture in the perlite that makes the difference. I’ve good luck rooting the Golden Godess, in a plastic cup an spag moss. I cut 1 in by almost 1/4 in holes in two sides of the cup an keep it damp. Hope you try this an hope it works for you. 😀💚
If u have a Hoya leaf with thrips damage can u safely keep it somehow? I had thrips on a plant, never saw any bugs just the damage and leaves coming out distorted. I'm so sad any advice cut all the leaves and keep the roots?
There is damage on the hoya leaves too? Distorted leaves can be from lower humidity....I would isolate it and treat it with a spray (multiple treatments over a few weeks) or use a systemic pesticide if you have it.
@@EverythingPlants thank you I have done that but I didn't know if I should cut off the leaves because thrips lay eggs in the leaves? I almost don't want to keep it at all because it scares me that they will rehatch
@@roxywade4581 it may but unless the plant is like 5 dollars then I just repeat the treatment and just keep an eye on it.....but it's up to you obviously if you keep it or not
