Love this! I’ll be making one soon for my new sewing space!

I made one of those about 25 years ago. I put a layer of carpet pad under the batting and it last for about 15 years before I replaced it. I use some heavy canvas to cover it and then made a cover of white denium with a drawstring all around so I could remove and wash it.

I just made one of these. I only had 80/20 batting so I used that and I used hot glue! I love my ironing surface so much!

Have you ever used the heat resistant fabric. (like that is used for ironing board covers) instead of batting?

I'm glad to see you using wood glue, I used staples and am always catching it on things, and the backing you chose to keep it from slipping, ingenious!

I do use big staples on my larger cutting board and use the backing to cover the staples and keep the board from slipping - a double bonus!

Great video! I have been wanting to make one to sit close by my sewing machine. Now I know what supplies to get. Also, as I was watching I thought a handle would be nice. That would make it easier to carry from one place to another. Thanks for all your instructional videos.

I, personally, would be certain to not overlap the corners of the batting, so board lays flat on my surface. Nice job with this idea.

NANCY-KATHARYN Mcgraw mine wrap around the edge and they lay flat on the table. The wood is heavy enough to insure that.

I have an old flat piece of countertop. Could I cover that ? Instead of wood ?

Another fantastic video. Going to make myself one of these pressing boards. Question how long do they last before changing?

Depends on how messy you get with them ;) I usually only change the top and batting when it gets dirty, so not too often - maybe every 9 months or so.

Depends on how much starch/sizing overspray you accumulate on the surface. With minimal use of those products the cover can last for years. With high use, a few months or so.

Kim, I have always wanted to make one but was not sure on what fabric to us. Ikea is not close to drive to. Can I just use regular cotton fabric or do I need something heavier?

You can definitely use cotton fabric, Deb, even canvas duck cloth or similar would work well. Just make sure it is 100% cotton.

I made one with plywood but it's too heavy. What thickness is the MDF that you used?

Hi Tammy: Now that's a good question ... it is about 1/2". It ends up being about 3/4" when you add the batting and top fabric to it.
