I still stand behind my previous version of a torchless pronged gemstone ring, however this design might help anyone who has had stability issues with the previous design.
I love tumbled and raw organic semi-precious stones and I've always wanted to design a ring where I can use an un-drilled raw or tumbled stone for a a ring without glue or intensive wire weaving. Wire weaving is great but it usually requires that you use a cabochon which are more expensive and are not as easy to obtain as a tumbled or raw stone.
Keep in mind that this is not exactly a project that you should try for your first ring project as it is something that you will do better with after you have a bit of experience making rings.
I would suggest that before you start any tutorial you watch it all the way through at least once so you can get a good feel for the project before you begin, but the choice is yours.
For the finished ring in the tutorial I used a 30mmx 20 mm faceted quartz crystal point 2 feet of 20 gauge silver wire for the ring base and prongs and about 2 feet of 24 gauge silver wire for wrapping for a size 7 ring. 16-20 gauge wire is a good gauge for the base of the ring so its not flimsy and anywhere from 22-24 gauge wire will work for the top wrapping.
