My kit will arrive shortly. This video is great - everything a goof like me needs to know. Worth watching multiple times as I work my way through the project. Thanks!

I am in the process of making a new sail cover, using your video and your instruction book that came with my kit. We have lazy jacks. The instructions say to put the lazy jack slits in after sewing the bottom hem, but prior to installing the zipper. If thats the case, what is the best way is to measure the exact location of the lazy jack slits? The instructions just say to determine the location and mark. We're thinking we need to almost make the cover and fit it over the flaked sail, smoothe it out over the boom and then mark. Any suggestions on this step?

Does the pattern include markings for lazy jack lines and additional zippers?

I'm wondering why you didn't using basting tape on the semi flat feld seam on the covers spine.(18 min mark) Basting tape is used generously on almost all steps.

It can be used for the spine.

Misleading title. This is not about making your own cover, it is about buying the cut pieces and sewing them together.

I have made made several mainsail covers by buying 5 yards of Sunbrella, a zipper etc, and following these instructions. It certainly helps to have the old cover for a pattern. So you don't have to buy the dimensioned material; nothing is stopping you from doing it yourself.

Is there a reason to use a zipper on the mast side instead of more twist locks? On old sail covers the zipper seems to always fail.

Correct. I hate zippers. Twist lock is the best.
