How To Make A Simple Diy Dowel Jig / Doweling Jig

I've made this simple dowel jig out of scrap off cuts and some steel tubing which act as guides for a drill bit. Now this diy doweling jig should take less than half an hour to make and is very accurate as long as you make it that way.

What a brilliant idea, I'm building a large reclaimed timber fireplace, and space is a premium in a two bed flat, I need to dowel joint a lot of oak siding offcuts in a herringbone design for the back board and this little jig is perfect, if it wasn't 10.30pm I'd make it now. 👌👍👌👍👌👍👌

Cheers Thank you for your comment. My accent is from Durham its very similar to Geordie with a bit of coal miner dialect mixed in half the time I cant understand m. But I have been trying my best to leave out the slang. Pleased you liked the Video. Cheers Anth

thank you for the video it was very good Matador subscription I like your jig out of the all the doweling jigs that I had checked outcan you tell me does it work also the same way if you use it on an angle cut like saying a frame around something

That's correct but if you were to make the JIG then you would make it to suit the size timber you are using.

10 mm outside diameter and 8mm inside diameter.

The center line really should have been set between the centers of the 2 holes, not the center of the piece of wood, could easily lead to an error if the wood is not perfect, in other words better to mark the 3 centers all at the same time if you want it to be perfect. Of course it works the way it's shown if everything is measured and cut perfectly.

Hello Harry your perfectly right you can make the jig both ways. I'd made a single dowel hole jig some time ago and that my goto doweling jig.

What size of drill bit did you use for the pocket holes?

Hi I used an 8mm drill bit for 8mm fluted dowels. Hope that helps.
