And welcome to my RU-vid Channel I'm Anthony Wood and On my Channel I'll be posting videos on workshop jigs tooling furniture manufacturing Upholstery and so much more. Im going to try and post at least once a week depending on the size of project I'm on with. Please comment share and Subscribe if you found any of my videos helpful.
My goal on RU-vid is to inspire everyone to be a maker.
Perfect! A very simple design that serves its purpose. Thank you. Everybody else and their dog here on RU-vid wants a table with every bell and whistle, making it way too complicated. Again, thank you.
Fair comment, but if you take your time setting up, then yes, you can achieve very accurate tennons.. The jig itself is adjustable and aimed at the DIY user.
Love it - thanks for the clear walkthrough. I am new to woodworking and found myself wondering if a simple routertable setup might be a faster option? (I am thinking it might involve less clamping, but dont know what I dont know, so it might be less safe or less accurate?) Subscribed. :)
Hi thanks for the comment and sub. I would normally use a router table as it is quicker and more accurate. The draw back is having a dedicated router for the table. But as long as you have the space for a router table that'll definitely be the best option. I made this jig for people with limited funds and space hopefully that's answered few questions. Cheers Anth
Nice, I like it. One question - do you have any thoughts how a jig could be made that creates a tenon with rounded corners? My current process is to make a square-cornered tenon and then sand it down, but it’s a bit imprecise and not very quick so I’ve been wondering how a jig could be made to help out?
Hi personally I just round them with a sharp chisel. I've also used them square on rounded mortises as the rounded space is good for glue squeeze out. Both methods are as strong as each other. I know trend do a jig for doing the rounded mortise and matching tennon although it costs around £200. Thanks for the comment cheers Anth.
Wow I'm only a hobby woodworker bit this for a project i was doing and it worked a treat even managed to cut the mortise also and all from shop scrap brilliant pal
Cheers for the sub. The is a supplier called Quay timber ne6 2xx is the post code. They do all timber plus reclaimed, so plenty of choice. Hope that helps Cheer Anth
go next step. Drill second hole between center and stop or one quarter to three quarters stop to stop to 'quarter' a board. drill a third hole in the other half at one third stop to stop to 'third' a board.
Thank you, I was looking por a simple jig that I could make with tools a non professional has at home. This project complies with that. Greetings from Argentina. Edit: thumbs UP and suscribed!
Both template and palm router are cleary not the best solution for the task. Palm routers have terrible height adjustments and for tenons you really need precision fit. Also it takes ages to turn 4 times the piece, also 4 times having a chance to srew it up while clamping. A simple sled on a tablesaw is way more accurate and easier to setup and use. Also more versatile and repeatable.
That was a mathematical equation in itself. What if you don't have a table saw? Or how about just use a spindle moulder for ultra precise fit. Then again how about hand cut joinery ie Japanese. Spelling is an art just joinery you can either do it or you can't.
Hi Sara Thank you. I don't have a plan but what I do have is what you call a sketchup file it a 3d model of the one seat and love seat. I'm yet to draw plans up in pdf as I've just lost my Dad, and my mum suffers with dementia so time is an issue.. but if you let me know of the 5an happy to help you as much as I can. Cheers Anth
@@AnthWood that would be great if you would send me that? I totally understand how hard it is with parents my dad is in same position. My mum health is also not great. Whenever is convenient would be no prob. Take care. xx
Hello Sara Here is the link to the sketch up file you will have to download it then open with sketckup viewer, which is free. If you get stuck let me know. drive.google.com/file/d/12FdEH4pYCSbjgOS2eRREeJYSv-J2eMCp/view?usp=drivesdk
Hi I’ve just taken up carpentry in retirement. I love your tenon jig but in the description I think I missed the third dimension for the size of the hole. I had the 50mm from the sides and 125mm from the the top but I need the dimension from the bottom or am I missing something.🤔 Thanks for a great video.
Check the description. link for the Sketchup file is in the description so you can open it with the free version and get all dimensions and angles. I've had a workshop fire 🔥 so I'm just busy putting my work shop back together. Cheers Anth
Hello I've just tried the link and it's working OK. I've had a workshop fire so just getting things sorted. I'll see if I can locate any other dimensions for you happy making.
Thank you. Simple straight forward and no music. Appreciate you not going from shot to shot at warp speed & turning down the sound when using power tools. It is nice to simply listen and understand.
I am only do carpentry has an hobby and the way you have explained how to do it will make it so easier for me now I have all the measurements. By the way great name you have.
