I made this all from parts around the house. Go and build your own :)

Thank you. I love it. Just got into Soldering and i didnt want to buy a stand so this is great.

Nice build! You should put hole in the box and thread the solder though it so it dispenses it! ;-P

Nice idea. I read once in a book/magazine you can half the wattage of a soldering iron using one power diode, perhaps 1 amp type, in series with the soldering iron. So for example, if you have a 30W iron, you can make it a 15W one, or for putting it in standby mode to save the tip, etc. I have done this and it works.

Nice! It can be made to be more portable if the fan is hinged and can flip down against the box. So it doesn't get ripped off by accident.

Nice job, kiddo! Very innovative. This was very helpful. Keep up the good work.

1. ZD-99 is not to big to work good with it. 2. It can be set up to 450°C and I measured 470°C which is almost spot on if you think of the fact, that no heat was drawn away when measuring. 3. I use just one simple tip for every soldering Job no matter if Heavy Duty cable or tiny SMD component. It is a Chisel Tip. It even survived a few attacks of Soldering Paste without any problem, which surprises me, since it destroyed every old Tip for my older soldering irons. I got also a 150W one.

Pretty inventive corbo! I like it. My only gripe would be that its made of plastic and my goofy self would end up accidently burning the top some how....lol.

ZD-99 does not cost as much as professionals but lasts very long and is pretty accurate at temperature! Just can recomment that. There is no need for a better one.

well. ill continue with how i do my own way. because it works better then anything else iv tried

I mean its cool, but Its too big, and you should use abrasives to clean your iron, use a wet sponge or really fine steel wool, Also you should get like a light dimmer too and wire it to your iron so you have temp control. ( thats how I did my iron before I got a nice soldering station)

Yes, it is a pcu fan out of a computer that was junk. you can also buy them at radio shack, there a bit spendy tho

Ever read a datasheet of electronics? The recomment 250°C or 300°C and there is a reason for that.

theres a big need for better soldering irons 1. size. i have a very nice, very small soldering iron to get into small spaces. 2. high temps. to melt quickly and distribute temoerature evenly. 3. good tips. bad soldering tips make soldering 10x more frustrating and difficault
@HeartOfGermany
@HeartOfGermany 11 лет назад
Well, that is nice, but what do you need that for?
@corbonzo1

you would think so, i thought so to, but it actually doesn't, the heat doesn't make it that far.

Not bad but can I suggest a temp controlled solder iron (I've just upgraded from a crappy single setting iron) and for cleaning you are MUCH better with a wet bit of sponge like your mother might use in the kitchen. Then after wetting, re-apply some rosin-core solder to keep it clean. Anyone just getting into soldering, if you can afford it go with a temp controlled station and a clamp third hand device, it makes things so much easier along with a set of 300x magnification glasses. But for the cost this person had to stick to they were at least innovative in their custom design and if it works for them then cudos to them :).

its just better to solder, and faster
@corbonzo1
@corbonzo1 11 лет назад
nope. i use it only on electronics, ive never burned anything, it works wonders. just reading something doesnt mean it true, through trial and error is where you find out that

And no, soldering station are not expensive. If you are hobbyst, you can buy yihua 936 on ebay or hobbyking for about 20$ as i remember. If you dont afraid to buy from china then you can look for other clones of this station on Alliexpress.Their name are Zhaoxin, W.E.P., PT, Aoyue, Baku and even Hakko (no its not original because original has been discontinued :) )

wait wouldn't the coat wire plastic melt when the soldering iron is on and hot?
@corbonzo1
@corbonzo1 11 лет назад
my soldering iron is half the size of yours. and it gets to a solid 510 C

Name is confusing. This isnt soldering station but lets say soldering desk. Soldering station is for example yihua 936 or hakko fx 888 - soldering iron with thermocouple sensor which reads temperature of the tip. Those readings go to power unit with electronics which compare this temp with temp set by the user. If tip temp is lower than users temp, then it turn on the power for iron. User just set temperature (either by buttons with LCD or potentiometer) and electronics keep it in proper level.

Hey , is your fan dc powered?
@HeartOfGermany
@HeartOfGermany 11 лет назад
But definitely not for Electronics. It is not recommented at all. 50K over the Solder melting temp is plenty enought and will still work for a max. duel time of 2 sec which is absolutely recommented. For soldering tubes, of corse you will need more temp and more power, but I want to solder tiny little legs of some devices.

thats a really cheap soldering iron, i dont want a cheap one. so i have a good solering iron and so i decided to make my own

I bought a soldering station for under 20€ with good tools included. ZD-99 is good for anything, so why build something like that?
@HeartOfGermany
@HeartOfGermany 11 лет назад
You must been doing wrong. Ther must be a reason, why not a single one in the world uses such high temp. As I said: 250°C is enought, even for leadfree solder. Duel time under 2 sec. If you don't get it done, you do something wrong. But with anything over 2 sec or over 300°C you are starting to damage the board and components. That is a scientific fact which has beed proven more than 30 Years ago.

This is the gayest homemade soldering station (if you can call it that) that I have ever seen spend some money and make a better one

+Julian Zamora Speak for yourself. When you can upload a video and build an amazing soldering station at this kids age, then you can talk. Until then- shut up.
