a couple of common questions answered: *Why did you say "tinfoil" while you were building?* I said tinfoil out of habit but at *54* seconds in I give the supplies list and say, "you need aluminum foil". The supplies list, the description box, and my blog, all call for aluminum foil. I did say tin in this video while building,, oops, it was a mistake. Yes, you are right, it's called aluminum foil. I have done my best to break the habit tho and I’ve managed to keep the word tinfoil out of my videos since. 😅 *How much foil did I use?* I didn't measure but definitely less than 40 feet. I actually want to say about 20 - 30 but it's safer to guess beyond that. How much you use will depend on the size of tree you make. I used the cheapest foil I could find, you do not need heavy duty foil. *Can I paint the inside chamber where the light goes?* Absolutely! I did paint one of mine black in case I didn't use tissue paper. It worked out fabulous. *Can I add more branches?* You can add on and take away anything you want to. This is a project you can do just about anything with. Have fun!

@Where The Gnomes Live - Many people use the term tin foil when they are actually talking about aluminum foil; seems like everyone knows what they are referring to. Also, it's a lot quicker to say. ;-)
@WhereTheGnomesLive
@WhereTheGnomesLive 5 лет назад
yes! Thank you.. there are some people who are focusing on the word, it's a distraction for them. I never even gave it a thought before this video. I walk into any store and ask where they keep their tin foil and without a blink of an eye I'm directed right to the aluminum foil. It's been referred to as tin foil all my life. I'll try very hard to remember to always call it aluminum in future videos.. I can't make it a promise though, I get all carried away grabbing that tin foil! lol

This woman is one of the best craft teachers I've found on youtube. She not only explains clearly what she's doing and what materials she's using, but she also gives you different options on other materials and methods that will either work the same, or give you different effects depending on what you want. Fantastic stuff!

I don't always find posts where I can follow to a Tee what they are doing, but I find your directions easy to follow, especially when you explained about the arms drying with the glue and then becoming soggy agsin after painting. If I didn't know I might panic. Thanks for your inspiration!

you have to wonder at the seriousness of some but maybe it's just that tone is hard to convey via a comment. Future generations will be more prone to call it by its proper name, I'm sure, but I can't say "aluminum" properly half the time so foil it is, I just have to remember to drop the tin, lol

Your technique is perfect for the Banyan Tree that I'm needing to make for my stop-motion animated film. Your method allows for some movement of the fingers and hands (the way I"m leaving the fingers not so glued and a bit more flexible). The Banyan has those creepy air roots dripping down from the top and your idea works well with that, Plus, I'm adding in some rope tendrils too. Thank you for your excellent instructions and directions.

Thanks to this video I was able to make a tree very similar to yours, but it’s about 5’6” tall! It really turned out so cool! ohhh that is so awesome! I like how you used other materials to fill in, that's great. 5'6!!! That's taller than I am, lol and that beats my tallest tree too. My tree that I built into a corner of my craft room is almost 5ft, (If I'm remembering correctly), my cats love love love it but the Gnomes don't like cats hahaha And yes, I find building to be relaxing and therapeutic for me. * grin* We can't see you,so no clue on your age,lol,but i'm of the age that'll call it tin foil 'til I die too,so I get it. Anyone with parents raised pre-WW2 will,because prior to then,foil made from Tin WAS the cheap stuff( hence tinfoil) ppl wrapped leftovers in ! *snicker* Plus,if you'd said Aluminum foil,your whole feed would be full of the debate on how to say it, "Aluminum or Aluminium !( They're both right folks,look it up !) This is the COOLEST thing I've ever seen made on a craft video!!! I'm so glad you shared this! Thank you so much! Buy the way I read a comment about you saying tin foil instead of aluminum foil. and my opinion who cares what it's called tin foil aluminum foil it's all the same thing people need to get over this politically correct stuff! Oh well whatever floats their boat. LMBO 😂 🤣 😂

Wow! This is awesome!! I'm so glad I came across this video! This is something anyone can do since its relatively cheap to make, and you probably have most things already on hand. And for the people so focused on tin/aluminum, OMG! it's just FOIL for Pete's sake! They might need to find a help video on OCD. 🙄

OMG! This was the best video tutorial I have ever watched! Thank you so much! I am going to make a little one for my kitchen table, but I plan on making a BIG one....or 5 or 6 for outside on Halloween! I am thinking of using pvc and chicken wire for the frame, and monster mud or something like it for the exterior coating. I don't want it to be too heavy. Thanks again! You just sent my brain into overload with all the ideas from this simple and fun project.

I have been saving all the brown packing paper from Amazon, I have a feeling it will be thin enough to be a good bark like texture and color! I just love your tree!

Wow that’s amazing. I never thought of doing anything like this. I do theater props and this is going to be used on a larger scale too. But I’m gonna make a full haunted forest and even make some trolls.

your so darn talented. Wow!!! Thank you for taking the time to show us how to do this. And for those being word Nazis, ignore please...keep being you and do not worry what you call tin foil, that is the wording here in the Midwest that we have always called it. Toma'to/ tomato, they know what you are using that is all anyone needs to know. Thanks again, and remember you cannot make everyone in the world happy all the time, so forget them and just do your thing....you rock!

ohhh I'm so happy to read your comment! This is the kind of thing I was hoping would happen, you go check and yup, you got it all! lol I remember years ago wanting to craft, usually it would hit me around midnight when stores were closed, and I had to use things I had on hand. That's what I want to share with others, the ability to be creative with basic supplies or with supplies you can buy just about anywhere. Thanks for taking the time to comment, you made me smile :)
