Thanks for putting together such a solid video- somehow both quick, yet thorough. I’m a novice cabber and had the idea to try an intarsia cabochon. Once I get the epoxy and clamps that you recommended, I look forward to giving it a shot.

Yes! Quick yet complete are always my goals, so it makes me happy to hear I was successful! Just because you’re a novice doesn’t mean intarsia is out of your range, you’ll learn a lot about which stones are best together (due to hardness differences) just from doing it. Wishing you the best of luck, and hope you’ll share your finished lapidary art one day! 😊

I am so happy to have found your channel!! I am starting into the world of inlay and intarsia! I bought one of Al's last machines (What a guy!) in his ninety's and still built my machine. I am still trying to learn how to use his calibrated head. look forward to all of your upcoming video's

It makes my day to hear I was able to help you out! Al is such a generous man. I remember when I was deciding whether to ship or drive 5 hours (10 roundtrip) to go pick up one of his machines, he was going to invite me to lunch and show me around his shop. I should have taken him up on that! Let me know if there are any things you've been interested in doing and I'll see if I can make a video on it :)

When did you develop an interest in intarsia?? I was sooo excited to see your videos and it re-sparked my interest!! I pulled out all the stuff I started experimenting with a few years ago! LOVE your work and thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and skills!!

Ohh, that makes me so excited to hear that you feel newly inspired to take a whack at intarsia again! And thank you for such kind words about my work. I actually got into intarsia since I have a fine art background (painting degrees at Savannah College of Art and Design and Maryland Institute College of Art) but always felt like I wanted to make a painting more with my hands. Intarsia and inlay has really allowed me to combine my love for rockhounding and painting! 😊

I am just now getting into my jewelry career and am hoping to get some places you buy your rough from. Thank you so very much for sharing the video. Its amazing and I cant wait to try this. What a georgous piece and gives me confidence I can make my very own art.

Thanks so much, Sandra! My goal is to make this technique as easy and accessible as possible, so I hope it is helpful for you! Are you looking for rough to slab, or just slabs? I have some different sources for each. But usually I have multiple sources I pull from since not everyone carries what I want. There are a lot of American sellers on Facebook that I trust that have slab or roughy selling groups they’ve made on there and that’s a great way to find what you want if you don’t have local rock/gem shows that come though your city

Where do you buy those stones from? Do you need the fancy cutters that you’re using or are there any smaller easier to use equipment for beginners?
@calbrittonjewelry
@calbrittonjewelry 2 года назад
Hello! I buy my stones from a few different places: my local rock/lapidary club, facebook groups devoted to slabs and rough material, rock shows that come to town, and sometimes eBay but you have to be really careful buying high-priced material on there so you don’t get scammed. I’ve heard some people make cabochons solely with their angled flat lap, so it’s not impossible to get away with just that plus a trim saw. But if you’re wanting to really get into it, certain equipment just makes your life so much easier.

Which Adhesive are you using?🙏☘
@calbrittonjewelry
@calbrittonjewelry 2 года назад
Epoxy 330! Definitely don’t try using any CA glues like Super Glue, they’re not strong enough to last

Hi Caitlin - I tried to use the referral link in your description section but it’s not calculating a discount. Do you think the link is expired? Thanks for your help! Jill
@calbrittonjewelry
@calbrittonjewelry Год назад
I’m so sorry, Jill! Was it for CabKing or Hi-Tech Diamond? They shouldn’t expire but let me look at the links again right now and I’ll get back with you.

So it looks like the link is fine; I’m wondering if because a lot of products are currently on sale before the holidays, that they don’t do additional discounts on top of it. I just sent them an email and will call tomorrow then let you know ASAP so thanks for waiting for me! 😊

@@calbrittonjewelry thanks Caitlin - you’re probably right…it’s showing “on sale” and then shipping is showing free too so that may have taken the place of the discount. Don’t worry about contacting them - unless it will benefit you of course! I’m ordering it either way (or rather, it’s on my Christmas list and hubby has been directed to order it☺️) so it’s no biggie but if you get credit for it, please contact them! Thanks for your help! I’ve been wanting the Cabking for years so am so happy your videos inspired me to get back in to my rocks and buy it!! Up until now I’ve been using a flat lap and I have to change out the grinding plate for each grit - the Cabking will be sooo nice and efficient!! Thanks again for your videos❤️

@calbrittonjewelry Год назад
Hello again! I just got off the phone with them and I didn’t realize that you have to click on my referral link, then manually enter this coupon code to get the discount: calbritton I was corrected that the 10% coupon doesn’t apply to machines, attachments, or gift card but works on additional accessories (so I’ll change that in my description tonight). If you’ve already ordered, they said to let me know your name and they can add that discount code to anything applicable in your order (you can email your name at info@c-albritton.com if you’d like to keep private) or I’m sure you can just give them a call; they’re good folks! Hope that helps and apologies for any confusion! 😊

Hi Caitlin - just wanted to say thanks again! I ground down a few things I had cut up a long time ago - but I used my flat lap - it actually worked way better than I had imagined. Your tutorial worked great and these pieces actually are pretty cool for a first try! They were some cool river rocks from my yard! Still need to do a final polish. The last plate I used was 1000 grit - do you go farther than that before polishing or is your last step the last wheel on the CabKjng? So excited for Santa to bring my CabKing!!!! Thanks again!!
