We needed to build a storage shed for our garbage. Considering the garage is full of tools, it made send for us to have a shed on the side of the house for the storage of our garbage cans.
Here is how I built this garbage storage shed. Now we just have to get our kids to take out the trash...
Thanks for checking out the build of the garbage storage shed. There are plans on how to build this shed below. This shed can be adapted to store more than just garbage cans. I think this is a great way to store trash in an attractive and sturdy shed.

Love the video, love all the great comments! I build a blind also. Things I learned watching your video and building my own. Put a lid on it. Plus, you can get spring loaded hinges, or I've seen portion bars to help lift it up. Always slant everything away from the home. I should have bit the bullet and poured concrete. Put plastic down before the gravel. Mine is rear load, which kind of sucks when you get 8-12 inches of snow. But I didn't want to build swing doors. What brought me here today, is to build a sliding 'barn' door across the front (side where you push the trash cans/bins in) and let it slide to the back and then forwards again. Not having a lid, and as I mentioned, 8-12 inches of snow that started when the bins were curbside, allowed lots of snow to blow and fall into my blind. Again, thanks for the video, and all the amazing comments!!! Hey, how about powered sliding door. Just Kidding.

Did you add portion bars? That is a great idea, would love to see a picture of you you installed it

It would be cool if you rig up some fabric that can open and close for the front. Kinda like fabric window blinds.

You’re correct on not needing rebar - rebar in pavements is really only to reduce shrinkage and cracking from that shrinkage unless you’re designing something for truck loads. Curing your concrete by watering it (after it sets) for the first week or so will be better money spent to prevent shrinkage than installing rebar.

Oh sweet thanks! The pad is still in one piece so I must have done something right 😂

Looks good! I know the City's piloting a new bin system, it got held up this year due to covid, but hopefully the shed still works for the new bins.

I would recommend digging out the ground 3 inches before adding your base rock for better drainage. Also this allows you to ensure your forms are level with the ground and prevent seepage of concrete while pouring. Also for base crushed limestone or actual base rock is better than using the river/peagravel.

Thanks, Cody! I’ve got a few concrete projects planned for next year, so that’s super helpful

@@furthernorthfab no problem. I poured a concrete pad for my trash cans and I didn't put down base. I just dug it out a little set my forms and poured. It'll be fine for two cans but I should've added more time and set my base correctly. Also concrete has a high compression value re-bar is best in situations that there will be stress and strain, bending and pulling. My job does paver driveways for vehicles. We only use re-bar when setting the edges.

@@furthernorthfab I came here to say this- digging out a bit is the way to go. But for a little guy like this you're probably good. 2 more little tips: when mixing concrete in a wheel barrow I find it easiest to toss the bag in the barrow, Stab it with your roundhouse shovel, and pull the paper out from under it- you have to screw around with cutting the bag less, and getting your hands in it. #2: lay down a little 6mil plastic, a tarp, scrap sheets, or something where you're mixing and where you're pouring. Concrete is messy- plan for it. Great video, keep it up! Look forward to seeing more.

So the concrete is slanted away from house for water drainage, but the roof is slanted back towards the house?

I was thinking the same thing. Never, never slant towards the house. Live and learn :(

Definitely agreed on the respirator. Concrete dust + moisture in your lungs = you've got some problems.

Great project! Final product looks good. Good for you taking a stab at the concrete! My suggestions: remove sod prior to placing gravel, water and compact gravel, place stakes on the outside of the formwork, I would not suggest leaving the wood next to the concrete, with freeze/thaw the wood will separate or could rot. You’re right, a minimal amount of reinforcement, like a 5M mesh would be a good idea. I suggest mixing concrete to consistency of chunky peanut butter.

I was thinking all the same things. My father has done construction projects from remodels, additions, new homes, all the way up to building Lumber Yards. He explains there are 2 types of concrete, one that is cracked, and the other that is going to crack. With rebar or mesh, etc., you have a chance of controlling it. I have a Civil Engineer friend who builds/rebuilds airport runways, mostly for small to medium-sized towns. He says if you do it right, it will never crack. But he has knowledge about this and checks every load that is delivered, so I'm pretty sure his concrete doesn't crack. Great video, and great comments Steve P. Thanks!!

Why not making roof higher ? This seems very awkward. One has to lift one lid to get access to another. Which will get worse if there is snow.

ON THAT CORRUGATED PLASTIC. Even taping that stuff it will still chip it. I used an Electric Rotary Fabric Cutter. "Not" a weak battery-operated one. A corded one there are plenty on Amazon.
