Just a short tip to all of you; pull the slingshot before lifting it up to your face for aiming. Then you will save your face if the rubber should have some imperfections or if it comes loose from the slingshot itself. I speak of experience ;) It hurts, and can damage your eyes severely. Btw; very good and easy to follow instruction of a good survival tool Lily. Odd

Hi Lilly An old bicycle inner tube can be cut into strips and used to hold the bands in place. I've got one from when I was young and the inner tube rubber works well.

Hallo Lilly. Another great video on a fun subject. Living on a ranch as a kid I made slingshots using strips cut from an inner tube. Your factory made bands are much better. We did the same type of cut in the wood and tied string around the notch above the band. Looking forward to more videos.

Once again loved the video. Fine job of carving, notching the wood and attaching the rubber(especially the wedges in the slots). And you're a damn fine shot. Never ceases to amaze me what I can learn from a beautiful young Fraulein and her dog. Keep up the great work, Lilly!

Very nice video Lily. Thank you for sharing it. Shooting the steel balls can get quite expensive. I have found an economical alternative that maintains the impact and accuracy but at a lower cost. Use glass marbles. They can usually be found in toy or craft stores.

Made my first slingshot at age 10--still have it. I looped thick rubber bands from (broccoli bunches) together, and used small, thin rubber bands around the tops to keep the big ones from slipping out. Used my Swiss army knife to carve the leather too. I painted it camo. Used to practice by chopping down tall weeds from about 10-20 feet. Roundest rocks I could find--there were lots due to the local geology. I would have been grateful to have had steel shot back then! You really brought me back with this one...thank you!

I almost always take my slingshot along when hunting deer. It's a quiet and effective tool for harvesting forest grouse, which have provided camp meat on more than one occasion. Nice video on how to make one in the field!

When I was a kid, I'd melt lead and pour it out forming a thick sheet. I'd then cut the sheet with a hammer and chisel into small squares. They worked fine in my slingshot.

You should check out Jörg Sprave's channel. He is a German fellow who does all kind of a crazy slingshots. He uses theraband for the bands.

Turn your hand that holds the slingshot 90 deg. clockwise. Now you can use the bands to help you aim. Nice video.

Trumark sling shots are my favorite commercial types, I mainly use steel but for targets I use ceramic and sometimes I get the sack of marbles out and terrorize a few aluminum cans in the back yard.

Placing a couple of wraps of tarred bank line around the top of the slot after inserting the rubber bands will prevent them from coming out as well. Thanks for sharing the video!

When I first started with a sling shot I would take a weighted empty water bottle and float it out on a pond or lake with a line so I could retrieve it (just throw it out as far as you like.) This gave me a visual feedback where I was missing if it hit the water instead of the bottle. It worked out very well and helped my accuracy quite a bit as opposed to shooting at something that didn't provide visual feedback on misses. You don't even need lead weights - you can just fill the bottle about 1/3 the way, tie on some line, throw it out a dozen yards and you're set.

Steel slingshot ammo is good, but I cast my own from lead, using a home-made mold which makes nice 6,35 mm balls. But, my slingshot is quite similar to yours - mine being based on a Joerg Sprave design.

I grew up shooting and building slingshots.. with old red rubber and then with surgical tube... all hand crafted from stuff from the bush....

This was just what I was looking for Lily. I have some of the large steel ones, but you know...they take up to much room in your backpack. This is more like I had when I was a wee kid. I'm going out to make one this weekend. I just hope I can shoot as well as you. That can was a long way off. I love your videos and learn a lot from them. All the best to you!

Simple and easy design for the slingshot. I like it. Would wetting the band and putting a ball bearing in the end of the tubing service instead of a knot.

Lilly try holding the slingshot sideways so that the top and bottom bands are vertical, place your target on the top band for sighting and practice adjustments for distance, good luck.

I know you are much better with the sling shot now and can hit your target 9 out of 10 times and I like the way you made it. I still have one at home which I purchased years ago, but only used it once and need to get it out again and practice with it. I could do like you did here and make a sling shot by hand and just buy the slings to go with it.

Good work on the slingshot, and nicely presented. I like all the small set-up, and bridging video clips you include. They certainly are interesting. Are you familiar with a traditional sling, just a cord and a patch of leather to hold a rock or pellet? I am thinking of making one of those, and practicing with it. Thanks for another quality video. Hi! Great video. Another way to secure the bands instead of tying a knot is by placing one of your shot balls into each of the ends of the rubber tubing.
