@Shadycicada
@Shadycicada 6 лет назад
I'm still on the fence on making a series like that. It'd be fun, but I also don't want it to look like an insult to the band by attempting to break down everything they do, so I'd have to write it out a certain way. It's still something I've considered though. That being said, I have some other new series ideas coming as well that you all might be interested in! :)

(I doubt you'll be checking your old videos for these comments but I'll still comment) Man, I'm just checking up on your old tutorials back then, and even back then your music was hecca gud. And honestly, it's too good to not be used smh. I know that you said on Twitter that it's fine to pretty much use any of your music for anything, but with how you're so criminally under-viewed and under-appreciated, I doubt that the music will be used to it's full potential or to even a shred of what it's worth. (Except the myth manga trailer, that was amazing)

Power and Symphonic Metal are my favorite genres. I'm reluctant to make this comment, but perhaps you would agree. While I love all the Power Metal elements often more/less utilized in Symphonic, it does tend to gravitate towards its own sound. This kind of sounded more like a variant of Power Metal than it did anything which like screamed out "Symphonic". I'm actually not sure how one would break it down as each Symphonic Metal band kind of has their own sound, influenced by a mix of other sub-genres. A lot of course has to do with production and instrumentation (simply adding appropriate vocals wouldn't be what's throwing me off). I think what it is, is that Symphonic Metal is more driven by melody (as indeed carried by the lead vocals) with more Neo-Classical and Prog influences. While this was really great as usual, I guess I didn't feel it captured that essence.

If you listen closely, you can hear the lyrics. (4:35) know, though the road is getting dark though we've lost so many friends though the battle rages on you must carry on We will fight them till the end Even if we can not win and our hearts will be burning on Till we face the dawn.

Ok, nevermind, I remembered it's Nightwish - Ghost Love Score. It was hard to recall, but Tarja's "bring me home or leave me be" lyrics were also stuck in my head and she sings it right after the riff you played ^^

Fuck man. How do you keep getting better with each song? I do get the "disregard if you have a singer thing". I try to write leads and I'm like, "How do I sing over this? What do I do?" Regardless you're better than me at all this so keep it up!
@dog8438
@dog8438 7 лет назад
I have the same problem. There's certain riffs and leads I'll write and I want to throw them in the verses but I can't sing and play lead at the same time so I have to change it. I don't think your ability to play should limit your song writing but that's only true to a point tbh
@Shadycicada
@Shadycicada 6 лет назад
Ah thanks so much, man! The kind words are much appreciated :) From experience with vocalists, I found the best way to mix a lead with a singer (other than making it simple) is to have it follow a similar melody to what the vocalist is singing, whether it be an octave or a harmony etc. Octave chords also seem to blend well with vocalists.

Can you do how to do thrash metal? I kind of need help in getting my riffs to be "thrashy" for my symphonic thrash metal songs. It currently just sounds like black metal (further enforced by the fact i can only fry scream and am shit at producing). Thanks for this video so much, because i needed to know how to make symphonic metal because i am doing symphonic stuff to my thrash stuff (making epic angry dark stuff). But yeah i would love to see how you do thrash. Just pure thrash, because yeah my riffage isn't so much "thrashy" and i have no idea how to make leads and melodies for it. I like your Iron Maiden's Killers poster btw. Thanks for the video.

The most I could tell you is learn some scales and listen to a bunch of music you like, whether it be rock/metal, techno, video game music, etc to get influenced and motivated. From that point, it's a lot of experimentation, mixed with both great and occasional not-so-great ideas.
