I cannot thank you enough for simplifying this process! I've read and watched so many videos and couldn't figure out how to make a table of contents until I watched your video. You saved me!!
A natural-born teacher. Well done. I have run into a real WORD stumper today: The page number in the header is not FULLY at the right margin, though there is no tab set, either. It is about one-inch recessed (toward the left). So far, I can't find any issue that would explain this anomaly. This was a client's document, so I did not set it up. It has normal 1-inch margins (which show correctly when the View/Ruler is turned on) and the number font is in the Normal Style.
Thank you for the concise and easy to understand tutorial. I am going to save this so I can refer to it when trying to make my book I am planning to do.
Excellent presentation, thanks. I used to know all this but hadn't used it for years. I am back up to speed again. Your presentation style and pace suits me, 100% clear.
Hey Evan, I have this up on my computer all the time. This way I can access it for referral when I require a refresher. Your videos are easy to follow and even easier to implement into whatever documents I am working on. Keep up the great work. It's fun to learn with your videos.
Thank you for this! It took me way too long to understand this, but you answered all my questions super well. I was having trouble with the updating page numbers, but I didn't realize I had to keep the original titles from the first step. Thank you so so so much!
I feel so dumb I can't understand Table of Content I assume comprehension I feel depress sad about this it's very important to learn but having problem with everything.
Great, very informative but when I updated the Bibliography on page 12 it also picks up a random line of text from that page too and lists it as page 12 also? Hope you can help? 😊
Excellent video Evan. Thank you. I however got stuck in that on the Home tab, the selection of styles on the right where I see 'Heading 1' does NOT show 'Heading 2'. It shows 'Normal', 'Subtitle' and others but not Heading 2 (or 3 or 4 for that matter). How do I generate the 'Heading 2' to click on please? Thank you!
Hey Evan, Watched your video. Which was very helpful. I Creating a Table of Contents in Word 2016 for Mac. I created Chapters and Sections. Looks great. But than i wanted to add some new Chapters and Sections. Each time I try to do this my table of contents changes. By adding a summary of whatever I've written within a chapter or that section. HOW CAN I AVOID from happening?
+shopwerx Thanks! So with a custom table of contents (TOC), you would use it if you don’t like any of the standard looks. You make the TOC just the same as in the video, but selecting custom allows you to change the look (different organization, using dots between the head and the page number, etc). Hope this helps!
This is good solution but i dont want page number on right i want it to say 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,6 etc and when i click it should go to that page even if "4" is linking to page that is on page 200 i do not want numbered pages so how do i do that after creating this TOC?
I have a paper already complete with headings but would like to create a Table of Contents that will adjust as the paper adjusts. Can you help? It should READ Chapter 1:, Chapter 2:, etc with the Level 1.
