Slap chop and other zenithal painting techniques are taking the miniature wargaming and diorama building world by storm. But for the most part, these painting techniques rely on dry brushing which can be hard to master. Over time though, many painters have figured out the solution to this is not the paint, or brushes, but the palette. A textured palette allows you to unload the paint off your brush's bristles without ruining the delicate balance of moisture that is required for perfect dry brushing results. Don't worry though, you don't have to spend any of your hard earned cash to actualy get a textured palette. These soon to be essential hobby items can be built for basically free! They are also fast to make and don't require any specific skills.
In this video, I will demonstrate a fast and easy way to build your own texture palette. This humble tool will have a huge effect on improving your miniature and diorama painting and building skills.
Sit back, relax and check my tutorial out and most of all, please remember to subscribe.

Truly great idea. If I raided my bits box to build the pallet, I would cry throughout the process. Then, I would be cursing myself every time I go to the bits box for a part, only to realise I used that part to make that pallet. They say not to use real dirt because it's full of organics and your work will be ruined when it decays. Which is true. I found you can float off the organics by putting a small amount of dirt in a bucket and stirring it right up with a garden hose on full. Then tip most of the water out. Keep doing this until the water remains clear. I leave it in the bucket until it has dried out. Then I put it through it through 3 sives I have. The first is to get rid of stones that are too big for scale size. The other 2 are used to give me 2 grades. The thing I like most about washed dirt is that it does not have uniform size like the commercial grid we buy.
