In this video I show you how to make a simple tufted bench cushion for this stair case reading nook. The same concept applies to any cushion for a bench really!

What do you all think? Is there and easier way to make a tufted cushion bench? Let me know below!

Perfect! I’ve been looking for a good no-sew way to make cushions to add onto some pallets I “borrowed” to make some easy, not super expensive patio furniture. This tutorial is super helpful and yours turned out great! Thanks!

What type of screws did you use? I'm curious, I've done a project where I tried to screw through fabric once and it got all twisted!
@ZacJones
@ZacJones 5 лет назад
I used #6 screws I believe appx 1" long. The screw doesn't really matter a whole lot. I actually ripped through a test piece and had to fix. The key to driving the screw through is holding the fabric with your hand stretching it really tight and going slowwwww with the screw. the washers will help displacing all the pressure so it doesn't rip. Hope that helped, and thank you for the comment. I should have explained that a bit more in the video!

I thought this is the way all tufted headboards are done, but in real life, ppl do the wholes on the board and foam. Too much work. Love your way. Thank you.

Thanks for the video. I'm going to try this, but was wondering if the staples are still felt through the board? I have a cushion in our entry way and when we stand on it to get coats down we've been poked with random staple ends. Is hammering them down the only way to fix this?

Urch I wish I had a remote clue with carpentry. I really want to make a storage window seat like that but I am clueless lol. I went to a big name company and they wanted to charge me like $2000!

Nice! But what did you screw down! What does that look like! All I got was “ Don’t screw down all the way”
@ZacJones
@ZacJones 4 года назад
Sorry about that. So when you go to screw the fabric down, don’t drive the screws flush with the board because you will break the fabric unless it’s some heavy duty fabric. Leave the screws high about a 1/4”
@TheLarryBrown
@TheLarryBrown 2 года назад
@@ZacJones That's fascinating information. Thank you for that important advice so that we won't break the fabric. Very helpful, but you also covered that in the video but anyway no harm in emphasizing the point with a little repetition. Now, how about an answer to Ramon's question?

Actually that's not "Plywood", that's what is known as "OSB" (Oriented Strand Board), board it consists of shredded up leftover, recycled, wood shavings glued together. then pressed flat by huge wood presses. It is generally used for siding, floors, and roofing in building construction. Though it will generally last quite a long time when covered by another material such as siding, flooring, or roofing materials, but overall, it has neither the good looks, or the grain-look staining qualities that normal plywood has. Though it is generally cheaper to purchase than plywood of the same thickness. If anybody tries to tell you any different then, they don't know what they are talking about. If you have any doubts, then feel free to take a tour through a plywood mill or look it up on the internet. - Here is what the internet has to say about OSB..... Quote, "Used for sub floors, exterior walls, and roof decking, OSB sheathing is a structurally-engineered board that is made up of compressed wood strands. These strands of wood are arranged in layers that are bonded together with resin, which helps produce a strong product. OSB, or oriented strand board, is unlike traditional plywood in that it has no laps, gaps, knots or voids. In most applications, this sheathing is dimensionally stronger and stiffer than comparable dimensional plywood boards. Many builders gravitate toward it not only for the increased strength of the finished product, but for the cost effectiveness as well. Usually, the price difference between OSB and plywood is significant enough to warrant common usage." Unquote. - Many construction contractors (both commercial and non-commercial), will tell you that Quote, "To gain that structural strength when used vertically upon walls etc., the OSB sheet has to be installed upon the wall in a horizontal rather than a vertical configuration with the edge seams running horizontally rather than vertical." Unquote. - I have no idea of the validity of that last part though, as I've seen OSB installed both horizontally and vertically in building construction, though generally when it is installed in the vertical configuration, it has been done by a non-licensed home-owner, or by an amateur builder in what is known as a "Handyman".
@ZacJones

This is an awesome comment thank you for the correction! For thew longest time I just called it ply wood, I'll be sure to call it OSB in the future. I'm sure this application will be fine for it as long as no one gets splinters in their butts we should be okay! Thanks for watching!

@@ZacJones Short version: *Engineered Wood,* also called mass timber, composite wood, man-made wood, or manufactured board, includes a range of derivative wood products which are manufactured by binding or fixing the strands, particles, fibers, or veneers or boards of wood, together with adhesives, or other methods of fixation to form composite material. Just call it that and you're covered.☺ The only real concern if using it for interior furniture is the out- gassing of formaldehyde used in its manufacture, some people are very susceptible to this toxicity. Love your dog, we do Dachshund senior rescues, wouldn't have it any other way.
