Chris, your videos are my favorite woodworking videos on the web. At the same time I get depressed watching them. As an aspiring weekend woodworker with little time and skill, some of these projects look rediclously out of reach. Keep it up. You do amazing work. Do the commissions, just double your price.
Thanks Anthony just look at it piece by piece. I often do these larger projects over the course of 3 weekends with nights mixed in here and there. I know the videos make it look like it takes 3 hours... but you can definitely accomplish this kind of stuff while working full time.
I am glad to hear that you have found this book to be very informative and helpful for your woodworking project ru-vid.comUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO It sounds like you are well prepared and confident to build furniture for your house. I commend you and your friend for your enthusiasm and willingness to learn new things from this book. I hope you enjoy your woodworking journey and create some beautiful pieces.
Look, I don't want to gush, but… I worked at RU-vid from 2010 to 2017 and I'm pretty well versed in what it has to offer. And I watch way more woodworking videos than is probably healthy. But your videos are the ones I look forward to most, and when I see a new one pop up I pretty much stop what I'm doing and watch it through. Sometimes twice. You do great work and you make great videos. Thanks for both of those things.
Thanks Jason...really appreciate that :) Whenever you have some free time, send me a DM through instagram and give me the secret code to YT so that all my videos start getting 270M view :P
Thanks...been messing with a way to better show what the domino is doing. Especially for people who aren't familiar with it. It's not the most visually compelling tool, so if this spices it up a bit :) :) :)
Your videos are always so relaxing! Do you think you could do a build where you only use pine? Ive always though pine was ugly and hard to work with but I saw a cradenza made entirely out of it and it looked really good! It was only given a protective coat, no stain so that the natural look and color of pine was maintained. I thought that was dope. I wanna see YOU do it! (if you have time :)
Thanks Chloe. I have been wanting to try to do an upscale project using either poplar or pine, since those are kind of the "cheap" species that people get. Not sure when, but it'll happen.
I agree that would be nice to see as pine is inexpensive and soft to work with. I think a lot of the ugly with pine is people buying builder grade lumber and then finishing it with an oil that makes it that unpleasing yellow color.
Hello from Belgium (and sorry for my terrible english^^), just to say thanks and great works/design/arts. Its (for me) your best project at this time and i will try to reach the same quality and for that thanks again for sharing the skill and the idea, the best part of youtube 🤗
AHHH! Now I understand why i like your videos so much. Its the audio. You don't have narrative while you're working - you add it in post production. This is exceptional and I think I will do the same for my videos going forward. Excellent videos - keep them coming.
Well done as always. I'm considering a similar design for myself. I like the plywood/solid wood divider idea. Certainly helps the costs AND makes the piece a little more stable (I'm not using walnut.). Thanks for the explanation and the tip on those figure eight joiners.
Man I'm years behind the curve. I'm also not writing out that word which was absolutely splendid by the way. I'm just out here looking for ideas since I can't afford nice wood anymore. Sob story I know, and I stumbled across this. I like the design of the drawer pulls. It's funny, I make a fun one from old bolts. (I have a lot of large bolts. Used to operate heavy equipment.) I cut the head loose, however long I want the pull, bore a hole in the shaft part, tap it 1/4-20, and polish it to be smooth to the touch. Blue it, and voila, interesting drawer pull. Anyway, thanks for the videos.
Very nice...question: how did you attach the individual partitions to the top and base ?? pocket screws? glue? ..you did not show that part...can you please explain. very nice build. congratulations.
it's a new tool that Woodpeckers is making. I'm testing it out still and then I'll post something on Instagram about it next month. I've only used like 10% of the functionality and I already love it.
@@Foureyes.Furniture I noticed in a couple of the shots, you didn't use the Woodpeckers base. Why is that? Or were they just shot at a different time maybe?
Hola. I’d like to let you know that I love to watch your videos. To me you are genius, seriously. Now, I see that most wood workers these days go for the dominoes joiners or the biscuit joiners but I don’t see much of the traditional joining that were so difficult and time consuming. My question is, do you trust those electric joiners that much that you don’t question their endurance? Thank you.
Nice design and build. You make excellent videos and have found the perfect balance of subtle product placement, which I know helps pay the bills, without leaving us feeling like it's a non stop advertisement sprinkled with a bit of woodworking. Well done. Looking forward to the scarf discussion.
Thanks Scott...I really appreciate that. I try to make them as palatable as possible. I only work with brands that I legitimately feel comfortable recommending, and if there is the possibility of humor/entertainment/personality, I try to include that.
I'm scrolling, testing my theory that I might like everything you've ever made and BOOM I see stuff I've never seen that I'm digging too. Anyway, my question is: Has anyone ever asked you to furnish their entire home?
Chris, your videos are well edited, your designs are well executed. In short, everything is great but for your uptalking. It is way more than just a little bit annoying. You're a professional videographer. Be professional.
Hi Chris, in flushing up the hardwood to the plywood of the divider panels, curious if you hand sanded the hardwood or used a drum sander. I’d be worried about sanding through the veneer of the ply with a hand sander while removing so much material from a rather large piece of hardwood. Also, thanks for all the content and inspiration. Been a fan since before I was woodworking.
i wonder, how would that fare if you removed the base and used a french cleat system to mount it to a wall (im looking for designs for a shelf for my gaming consoles, and this design looks awesome)
I learned something in this video! I wish I would have seen this a month ago. Having an angled face on a piece that needed edge banding. Dang. Next time. :)
Hi Chris. I am currently starting out and want to start buying rough lumber but don't have the money for an expensive planer and joiner. Would you have any suggestions for a good starter set? Awesome work, I love watching your videos with my 1 year old. She dances to the music!
haha...that's awesome! Thanks man. As to your question, a couple suggestions. First, I don't think there are any cheap jointers and planers that will be worth it in the long run, so I would save, wait and buy once rather than ending up buying twice and spending more in the long run. In the meantime, I would work with Plywood as much as possible, and find a lumber yard that either sells or can mill lumber for you. As for finding a deal on a jointer and planer. I think the best way would be find a person who wants to get rid of theirs to make way for something bigger. For example...you'll probably find people upgrading from 6" to 8" jointers out there. Personally I know there have been lots of times I wish'd that I had something bigger than my 15" planer. Haven't pulled the trigger yet though.
I have the13" dewalt 734 lunch box from home depot for over 5 yrs now and it's a work horse in my shop also have the porter cable 6"benchtop from lowes same time frame and both still perform great and are used everyday multiple times a day planer was 399$ -home depot and jointer was 269$-lowes And the dust collection on both are good have planer hooked to the harbor freight DC system and the jointer to a 12gallon 5.5 hp craftsman shop vac. Sorry for jumping in but justa fyi for ya if ur amon a budget for tools like me.i did videos on both if u wanna check em out.then you'll have a better idea on how they perform. And I use em both in all my videos.
Another person said it already, but I love the dewalt planner too. I think the one I have is the 12.5 inch model. It has some features I personally liked over the 13 inch, and the cost difference for me at the time didn't make sense for an additional half inch. As far as jointers go, I would check out cutech. I was able to get their 8 inch jointer for less than most companies were selling their 6 inch for, and it has never let me down.
Grab a couple old Stanley bench planes and clean em up. Watch Paul Sellers' stuff, use the money you save to buy a good table saw. Come back take inspiration from Chris. Get the @jkatz-moses dovetail jig, replace Chris' dominoes with hand cut joints and start your own wildly successful channel!!! Or, at least that's my plan. @mattestlea will get you going on all the hand tool technique you need!
"The elasticity of demand, as it relates to the elasticity of scarves" hahaha, that was funny, and meant the two econ subject I did at university finally came in handy.
Hi Chris How are you? I´m watching all your videos with projects and they are amazing, beautiful too. I don´t work with woodwork but I´m aircraft mechanic and I love your projects. Congratulations by your channel from Brazil
Discovering that now... great piece! That'll do much better than my originally planned design :-) btw what wood do you use for the structure & legs? Doesn't seem to be PAR timber? or is it, but lower grade that you finish yourself with the planer?
I don't know which of the three is my favorite...that's a tough call. I really think using the chamfer between the base and upper section to mimic the angle lower on the base was the right call. That looks great!
Dude i plan to get a piece made by you. You cant give up taken a job. I got to have a custom piece made by you. Just working through some kinks and it my take some time but i need custom piece.
I appreciate how you incorporated the advert over footage of doing cuts most of us understand instead of shoving 3 minutes of advertising to ff through, Also beautiful and inspiring work. thanks for sharing holmes.
First: Best video yet. Some of those transitions, WOW. Second: Your buddy's music sounds like the music from This Is Us, so I keep thinking Mandy Moore or Milo Ventimiglia are going to be at the tablesaw.
Dude...are we the same person? My degree was in business with emphasis in economics. Let's start a company called "Woodworkinomics" I'll register the name...and we'll figure out what we do later :)
The similarities are starting to freak me out. But as long as I'm not Bizarro Chris, I'm ok with it. Most of starting a business is coming up with a name, so I think we are off to a good start!
This must be a record for record player builds by a single youtuber haha. Oh and you should mention that people should click the thumbs down button twice or it doesn’t work right, like I just did in my new video lol. There are 7 people who did it wrong
Hey Chris, good work....i appreciate work with uniqueness in each designs. I feel like you waste a lot wood planks when you cut it at angle, it would have been better you optimize your wood cutting ways, so as to reduce the wastage.
Your videos have the clearest explanation of process of any on the web. I love Ishitani’s videos for their simplicity and lack of talking and I love yours for their honesty and excellent explanations. Great job
