Not the same thing. Crappie are in the sunfish family and perch are there with walleye and pike I believe

Perch is used as a generic name in a lot of places. Where I live we don't have any real perch, but people call small sunfish perch instead.

Thanks Franco, these are great little lures! It was a 1982 article on "Mini-Plugs" by Bob Hassenauer that got me started on carving 1 to 1 1/2 inch lures for panfish and trout. Back then there were no commercial micro sized lures available so you had to make your own. Painting them with Testors enamel was a nightmare and there was no such thing as a clear-coat - everything I tried either attacked the enamel or turned the lures yellow. I always keep an ultralight rod rigged with small lures for panfish in the boat - it's amazing how often a large bass or pike will grab such a small lure. I usually carve my mini- plugs from maple so that they cast farther and run deeper. Thanks for sharing! Cheers!

Franco. I like the dowel with the sandpaper but i find if you modify it to use in your drill press it works a lot better. That allows you to hold it with both hands. I have used PVC for awhile and although I like wood better, it makes a really indestructible lure. You should have eaten the Crappie lol!

I've recently become addicted to little micro crankbaits. I do a lot of ultralight *any species* fishing and micro cranks are great for that.

Recently made a series of ultralight and micro lures (45-70 mm / 3-6 grams). It's a lot harder than it looks! It was just something to do as I don't do any fresh water fishing these days but it was an interesting and challenging project.

Brilliant colours for a lake.I put a de-barbed sharpened with a hypodermic point Mustard no.1 single open eyed siwash hook point the old hook could be cut off with needle nosed pliers. Then close the eye on the single. Would be nice if you put a size 14 swivel on first. Like a old west coast salmon plug. Maybe UV glue on 3 crappy jig tentacles to dress the hook. Watch out for the hook point it won't stick to your thumbnail it will go through it You get more bite with a single hook and can keep smaller fish from getting hooked. I'm sure that sharpening your hook point is the number 1 reason I catch trout measured in pounds not inches. 8 9 or 10 would do just fine. I would put that UV on last as fish see in UV. You can probably get UV crappy jigs as well. Anyways if ya didn't know now ya know.

I'm afraid my work shop plans were hand drawn in a note book and are long gone. The overall dimensions of the lure shop are 7 feet by 11 feet, if memory serves.

I'm going to have to try the trim PVC material. Did I understand you right, it's as light as balsa but more dense? I typically make my own poppers out of balsa and EVA foam for fly fishing for bass. It is always great to have alternative materials.

It is nearly as light as balsa but a bit harder, won't deform as easily.

Cant buy such piece of thick pvc plastic anywhere here. Also, cant believe u can catch such fish on such small lure. I never understood how fat and bubbly lures can catch any fish. I never manage it. Do you have any similar lure for saltwater that could work ?

Little baits are hard to tune and lose them action fast with too much clear and paint. They’re definitely the hardest bait to make. I’d rather make a 8 inch bait

Tuning can be a bit of a challenger, to make it a bit easier I keep the bib small and use light material so I can add a bit of ballast.
