It’s not spicy at all but you can add spice if you want to. I say about 2 cans of Ackee just enough for your family but if you have big family add more. Just yourself you can still eat 2 cans & save some for later. It’s pretty good.

Just cook it but don’t mash the Ackee it’s very delicate. It’ll be mash potatoes if you stir it hard like you have to turn it over & over with the pepper & onions

Saltfish is salty so I think you have to boil the salt out or have it soak. I’m not sure but I think boil it first

Boo boo lip! I can't have salt anymore, kidney failure. :( Prayers for healing please. Where in Florida is Grandma growing Ackee? I'm in Port St Lucie haven't seen any growing here? What would be a good substitute for the saltfish keeping the rest of the recipe as is?

I’ve soaked salt fish over night pouring water off periodically and adding fresh water , then boiled , to the point I’ve soaked all the salt out , it was completely fresh , but aside that you can use fresh cod , it is the same , just unsalted
