Hello friends, this video shows how to make a led acrylic lamp.
How to make acrylic engraving and cutting. By using a 3018 pro CNC machine and 3 mm acrylic material, the acrylic will be processed according to the GCode that we made.
I made GCode using Vetric Aspire software, cutting tools using V Bit 30 degrees, endmills 1 mm and 3 mm for acrylic cutting.
For this cnc machine 3018 pro is qualified, and more than enough for acrylic engraving and cutting.

Tools. = Endmill 3 mm ( Cutting )
Engraver Bit 30° ( Engraving )
Material = Acrylic 3 mm Thickness
Software = Vetric Aspire 9.5
Firmware = GRBL 0.9
Control. = GRBL 0.9

Hello! Can you please tell me what feed rate and depth per pass you use for engraving? I think I saw your plunge rate was 8mm/sec. Also what acrylic do you use? Is it cast acrylic or not? I want to engrave 2 mm acrylic but I cant seem to find the right cut settings. I'm using genmitsu sainsmart 3018 pro and Easel as a software.

Hey, when I try to engrave acrylic sheet. It doesn’t come out clean. Like the edges are rough and small but thread like acrylic coming out. What should I do? Thanks

Very Impressive, having watched the last 4 engravings you've done it should give those interested in getting one of these an insight into what can be achived on a small scale cnc machine. What sort of timescale was taken for each of the carving you did?

Very impressive, although this machine is small and simple, but still precise for the size, and process. Unfortunately, the program is still unstable when transvering G-Code, maybe because of the instability of GRBL version 0.9, or maybe from the connection cable. For this kind of engraving, it takes 2-3 hours from start to finish.

Great video. I must try this. I would have liked to have seen what happened when you go to the bottom of the cut out pass as I noticed you hadn't put tabs in. Can you tell me if it cut to the base without the piece moving please? I am practising with the Trial V Carve Desktop at the moment. I was wondering what Post Processor I had to choose for the Gcode for the CNC3018. Have you had no problem with 'Grbl (mm)'? Thanks again.

On the aluminum table for the cnc machine 3018, I used a 5 mm thick MDF board base, for the base board size, I adjusted it to the raw acrylic material size (210 mm x 150 mm). I glue the base board with Double Tape. After that, place the raw acrylic material on the base board also with double tape / insulation, right in the middle of the raw acrylic. So that later when cutting acrylic, the cut results do not shift. Actually there is another way, and it is in the vetric aspire program, wait a few days, I will make the video. I made a G Code program with Vetric Aspire, and for GRBL, there was a little problem, because the cnc 3018 pro is still using grbl version 0.9 and I haven't updated to 1.1 grbl. The problem is sometimes unstable when reading G-Code programs, and there are also problems with the connection cable. So it often makes the program stop halfway through the process.

@@tndcraftchannel127 thanks, I will wait for your next video. The trial version of V Carve has a file called 'Bulls Head'. It is a file that allows me to create the Gcode. I added the Post processor from Easel (free) to V Carve. That then works using Easel as a CNC controller I think it works with candle as well but not certain. Possible UGS as well, but I have never got on with that program.

Do you mean, a machine that is cheaper than cnc 3018 pro?

I think this machine is the cheapest currently available, I have searched the online shop. You can not use a cnc machine, but use a mini grinder machine ($ 20), the engraving stage is manual by hand, with the pattern attached to the acrylic, and cut it with a cutter knife / scroll saw, but the result will not be as good as with a cnc engraving machine.

Hi man, nice video. I'm have cnc 3018 and started playing with it, but i have(still) problem with melting acrylic while cutting. Still need to find someone who sell better acrylic which will not melt. But also for cutting currently i'm using normal drilling bit which is not flat head ( waiting for flat head bits) can this be problem also for melting? Also did you try flat head 0.5 mm or 1mm for pocket engraving? And how do you calibrate your zero point on z axis ?

I Think, your problem about ur Acrilic. Try to use Cast Acrilic. And for Calibrate Z Axiz, im manual calibrate, touch endmill to surface acrylic. And Zero it from Software

Nooo... Im not use any tool for calibrate z = 0, Just touch it to surface acrylic when spindel Dinamo is On.

How do I get the photos to be listed as AI?

Convert the jpg / jpeg / bitmap image format to Adobe Illustration software, then click "Image Trace" and Save as AI Format, so that the pixels are smooth and the vector lines are smooth. Actually you can directly upload a jpeg / bitmap image to Vetric Aspire. But if the image resolution is bad , the vector lines will become curly. And Don't Forget Your image must be changed to black and white before click " Image Trace ".
