Come on Nik, we all know the point of an intro is to trick the audience into thinking that your blackened-brutal-technical-death-metal track will be listenable by giving it a melodic piano introduction.
I wrote an awesome riff, i'm thinking "how can i make it stand out" check phone *notification, Nik Nocturnal released a new videos "How to make amazing metal song intros"* Your timing is just the best.
Try starting with a verse riff and work that into the chorus. That's usually what i do. I focus on the meat and potatoes first lol. Then an intro, breakdown, fills and shit like that usually falls into place pretty easily.
I like the foreshadowing technique a lot, especially on records like Shogun by Trivium, where they start of the first song on the album (Kirisute Gomen) with the chorus melody of the last song (Shogun) cause then you get to see more than one song link into each other with their themes.
Forsaken by As I Lay Dying has a sweet intro with multiple “parts” before they DESTROY you with their killer riff. That and Tim’s scream leads you in nicely too. Song starts slow but kicks in gear over a minute or so.
I'd love to be like "yeah I didn't write a chorus for this yet" and then instantly come up with something sick right away. Quality video as always my dude!!
The intro to brother by dark new day pieces is also pretty sick sounding, the bad thing by periphery is a pretty simple intro but it sounds pretty effective, even something like the diary of Jane is a really good example of a good intro, tourniquet off of breaking benjamins new album has a really sick intro
Absolutly helpfull! Noises, Samples, Instruments, fade in/frequency cuts i allready use. But with every of your videos you give some new ideas&inspiration and motivation! Thanks a lot! 🤘😎👍
For the samples/noises, I remember adding a nasty wet fart sound, reversed it, put delay and reverb with a flanger effect, and basically created some sort of mating call at the beginning
