Thanks for the video! Hourglass blocks are much easier to make using half square triangles though. No need to cut actual triangles!

Your video’s are “real”. You show how the block is actually put together. Thank you. So many time a pattern has no explanation on which way to press the seams. You always show it so clearly and often twice which I appreciate. Correctly ironed seams lets you achieve the correct size block.

Jen, thanks for the tips on working with flannels and this semi-scrappy quilt is lovely. But I wish you had sewn the seams before you cut into the hourglass fabric squares and avoided some of the bias risks. (There is at least one specialty ruler available for the hourglass unit, should you be so inclined.) That Cats Cradle ruler is going to be difficult to pass on if I run across it on future shopping trips. BTW, Tammy is a real treasure and I've always learned something from her/your tool videos.

Thank you so much for the feedback! We have found the precise pinning can really help prevent issues with bias! We totally agree - we learning something new from Tammy in every video as well!

The cat's cradle ruler is the greatest! Works very well.

You can see around the whole square and then cut corner to corner and you won’t have to worry about pinning, wonky corners or loosing your tips into the feed dogs

Have you thought about sewing the quarter square triangle before you cut? It's MUCH easier!

Thank you, Jen. A lot of this is familiar to me as my ex-wife graduated from the Fashion Institute, Los Angeles (I.e. Project Runway TV show.) Very interesting.

to avoid your fabric being drawn down into where the bobbin use a starter and an ender with your pieces. It really helps to avoid that happening.

Did you wash the flannel first?
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 6 лет назад
Pre-washing fabric is a personal preference! With these flannels, it isn't necessary because it is 100% cotton so it won't distort in the was. It will also not bleed when washed!
@gypsysmom7096

I was more concerned with shrinkage than bleeding.
