Is anyone else concerned about the Soil Moist Granules breaking down into cancer-causing acrylamides?? Not sure we should be adding neurotoxic stuff to our soils, especially around fruit trees. 😬

Thanks for sharing! We've been looking for a way to plant things at our farm, 2 hrs away, and keep them from dying from no water. I think this will do fantastic.

Thanks. You can also add mulch over the bags for added moister retention. Cheers!

Same with our lake house especially on the two covered decks. We catch rain water but still have to be there to add to each plant and there are a lot of them!! Any health concerns from the plastics like from the baby diapers (will definitely consider doing for my concrete pots with flowering shrubs because we are I. We get into the 90s most every summer day and watering daily for an hour is a job all by itself!!🪴🪴🪴🪴Thanks for thé ideas!

Permaculture huglecuture or back to eden garden is better in my opinion. Chop and drop, leaves arround.

Great idea. Why not just put your bag in the bucket, then the crystals in the bag, then the water? Wouldn’t have to scoop the wet crystals that way.

Exactly what I was thinking. Wonder if there's rhyme and reason for the way shown. Nonetheless, Great idea.
@dojodance

I think it was done that way for demonstration.( lol or he just never thought of it)
@Abinormal2
@Abinormal2 Год назад
@Brandon Fredenburg, after a little thought behind the method, I think it has to be done this way in order for the crystals to absorb the ratio of water they need to expand. The porous bags would probably seep to much water out before the crystals had a chance to expand fully. 😊
@dojodance
@dojodance Год назад
@@Abinormal2 I also have now done this and love what it's doing for my plants. What I found even if I put the bag in the bucket than the crystals, the smaller crystals would fall through the bag or get stuck in the mesh and than expand. So the hydrate in bucket than add to bags is the best way.

I wonder if coco coir would work instead of the crystals. I’m reading that it is slow to biodegrade and lasts long enough to be able to reuse it multiple times.

Do the crystals release bad chemicals and do the bags disintegrate into plastic nano particles over time?
@jesse4530
@jesse4530 9 месяцев назад
I was researching hydration crystals and its recommended that if you use them directly on soil that's it should be potted plants only because the crysrals might degrade to a toxic chemical. Potted soil can be thrown out when this happens.

I made these for my new trees. After a month, the bags still have not deflated, the ground under the bag is moist, but my trees are not budding and florishing. I fear the crystals are not letting go of the water, only absorbing it. I guess I need to try a different method to water my trees where my hose cannot reach.

Hey there my friend I just came across your channel and I really know nothing about gardening and growing things so thank you for your non complicated instructions so people like me can learn. I do grow my own herbs for cooking and they do well but I still know so little and am always looking at people's videos so I can learn. Thank you for your time and willingness to share what you have learned. God be with you brother and peace to you in Jesus name 🙏🤗

Looking for input for my 87 year old mom - she saw ‘storm bags’ on shark tank and was hoping to use those for her tomato plants that she has in a few large containers - she was hoping to put them in the container and then get them wet allowing them to slowly release water on plants while we are away and if it rains they will fill up and slowly release. Have others tried this? I’m thinking if she did this it would be much easier and more customizable for her containers.

This idea saved my new plantings when I went on vacation! I did want to ask though--the bags are disintegrating after only 2.5 weeks--maybe because they are in direct sunlight for several hours a day (Texas). Have you had this issue?

Beth Staggs: Yes, I was wondering if the crystals are safe for vegetables/ edibles. Also, does anyone know if you can recycle the gel bags used for injuries by adding it to soil or as used here in a sandbag? I have a couple that are torn so can't really freeze them again.

@@laurelh1799 that is a different substance I believe. Works the same way but has chemicals to make the crystals become cold...or hot.

Doesn't sand inside the bags work just as well? pile some big rocks on top and it works even better, keeping the sand cool and slowing evaporation.

I really like this idea, do you happen to have any before and after photos of a plant you’ve done this to? I have a rhodie near a cedar tree that sucks all of the moisture out of the ground around it making it near impossible to grow anything there unless I have constant water on it but I can’t because the water runs on to our back porch and floods it. This would be a great way to soak it deep without all of the excess water flooding everything around it!
