Something I always recommend when discussing Autopot is that you reference the "autopot copies" webpage and what it actually means. People outside of Australia are not buying official autopots or accessories despite believing so as the UK distributor stole the product and even the name from the Australian inventor then re-manufactured it. I'd include the URL to the "autopot copies" page but comment might get blocked so you'd have to google it. I don't think people internationally should be supporting them and in most cases they aren't even aware.

Another great video Hoocho !!! I'm running quite a few AutoPots and the only thing I'd add is to ensure you clean them every month or so and have a good filter to remove any crap from your solution. On a couple of occasions (not too often to piss me off, but enough to be annoying) I've had the AutoPot jam and gone into the greenhouse to find it flooding the floor as the mechanism jammed on. A good filter and the occasional clean and I'm not having that problem anymore.

I was thinking about that as the main issue especially with doing all of my growing indoors! It would be a huge mess!! I wonder if the nutrients themselves with the salts etc could cause a clogging issue?? I’m always afraid of those auto waterers.

These are brilliant! I have just started my venture into the world of hydrophonics. It's been a lot of fun! It is amazing how many parts you can design and fabricate for this if you own a decent 3D printer. I built myself a little test setup in my closet to play around with different nutrient levels and growth methods and the 3D printer has been key in being able to do that. Also, to the people who want to automate things but are not coders, Using Chat-GPT, You can write simple python scripts and use basic relay circuits to setup a WIDE array of control systems. The one I am currently playing with is atmospheric sensing, since this setup is in a closet I want to know the values of CO2 and other particulates in the air, that way I can also play with those values eventually too. The one thing I have been playing around with on paper myself is fruit trees. After seeing this video, I now know where I need to start. Cheers and keep up the great work!

Use organic dry amendments in the soil and you don't even need to add fertilizer to the water. I wont do anything other than sub irrigated planters or drippers in pots anymore. It's just to easy it doesn't make sense to garden any other way. I dont mix fertilizer and I only hand water for a week or two when I transplant. Sub irrigated planters in particular are so efficient with water it makes hydroponics look kinda silly. I use wicking planters specifically like an earthbox brand only I build my own.
@timpage5021
@timpage5021 Год назад
Agreed. I used Earth boxes a few times but I’m using Growteck SIP buckets. So damn simple and effective. And they still allow for air pruning like in fabric pots. Organic dry amendments and a microbe inoculation like Recharge and good to go. Plain filtered tap the whole way.

you should have tried an external fitting for the hose adapter, you have 6-7mm ID (that you can make as thick as you want, to ensure mechanical integrity) with one or two o ring to make the seal (I have tried internal barbs but they tend to leak somehow). or coat the thing in epoxy that also should work to some extent.

Bottom feeding with nutrient solution, will generally lead to nutrient salt buildup in the medium. Depending on the strength or EC of solution. Having the base tray elevated, (eg concrete paver featured) with removable bung plug in bottom tray, will allow for periodic top flushing. This would also clean the scoria of nutrient buildup also. Half or quarter strength nutrient solution should be used to flushed. I think it has to do with cationic exchange. (Hoocho would explain that better) Use an EC meter to check your run off, you generally only want to flush the medium back to the original strength of solution you are using. I’m not sure if a bell siphon would clean the scoria ( in base tray) of nutrient salt buildup as well but would work if base tray was empty. Your thoughts on Nutrient salt buildup, in the medium, caused by bottom feeding, Hoocho?

Enjoyed the video. Really like your channel. I'm getting ready to build an aquaponic greenhouse and I have been looking for ideas on growing a few small fruit trees. That's a really clean setup with the Autopot. For printing the small irrigation line adapters I think you're right about the .4 nozzle. I've printed some self watering containers and I wound up having to use a .4 nozzle and a .13 layer height. Not sure what slicer you use, but I also found that increasing the wall count to 3 or 4 in Cura helped make things water tight. You might also consider printing them on their side to put the layer lines perpendicular to the forces they will encounter getting knocked around. Should make the tips less likely to break off.

ive been using auto pots for over a year now indoors and have found they don't dry out enough between cycles and have occasionally caused root rot , whether the auto pots were the sole cause or part cause ive changed to the blumat system which has eliminated the problem and also seems to be a more natural way of watering from the top instead of from the bottom , Ill keep my 12 auto pots for growing trees or berries outside though , because it is an ingenious invention nonetheless , thanks for the great videos

@doogiehowser78 Год назад
@Canna Denfour20 ok , the blumats are adjustable to drip more but I think I know what you mean about underwatering because the carrots are the moisture sensors and would only sense the immediate area around them , but ive got my fingers crossed that they will be successful for my application which is one plant , one carrot per pot , so far so good

Can you not use the parabolic cuts from those to actually make rain covers for the part of the tub filled with stone? Given you cut a circle out the size of the rim of the pot I wouldn't be able to resist using the scrap to make covers for the tubs.
