This is awesome! I am upgrading a hermit crab tank, making it bioactive with plants. This seems like a great way to help these plants escape destruction. I will definitely be contacting Josh's soon to get my plants ordered!
It would be difficult & expensive to import wood products to Australia from other countries. Our customs department would expect a fumigation certificate to be included to ensure there are no bugs living in the wood
Lucia Cee late reply but if you’re not growing it in a frog/reptile vivarium then a diluted orchid fertilizer should do it once a month in spring and summer (less in fall and winter with less light). If you’re growing it in a frog or reptile vivarium then their poop or any dead insects will collect in the cups and fertilize the plant. Constant lighting and humidity and temperature conditions in a tank will ensure nice year round growth.
Hey Imelda, I would not suggest doing that. Craft cork has a high potential of being contaminated with chemicals during it's time in the craft stores and traveling with craft supplies. I would suggest only using items that are meant to be used with animals. Thank you Thomas Curator of Dart frogs
Soooo, first organic matter can almost never be 100% free of parasites, bacteria, viruses, fungus and other such things. You can bake it, you can dry it, you can wash it... but there is always a potential for harmful chemicals or organisms to continue to reside in the piece you are looking to use. We do not recommend using items from outside. But if you do decide to do so, i would first clean it with repti-san and a long bristle brush, then let it dry out for a week or more, then bake it at a low temperature such as 185, for 3-4 hours. Keep in mind, baking materials like these can be very smelly and dangerous if the material touches the heating elements. This process can also degrade materials making them weaker.
Fishing line will stretch some as any fisherman knows. I think I will stick to the U shaped covered floral wire on cork bark. Maybe I am paranoid but better safe than sorry. Love your vids though.
You can flush it's cup weekly, and moisten the sphagnum moss occasionally. Some people even prefer to soak the entire mount in water once a week for 5 minutes.
