Thanks Lisa for your nice compliment! I feel the same way that you do. I often watch other videos trying to do projects and they are phenomenal but I think, that's way above my level or sometimes they use tools that I can't afford so I strive to do projects that are simple and that even an idiot, like myself can figure out! 😂 God bless you!

Thanks so much for this video! I am trying to make an awning in the back of my house to keep the rain away from the foundation but also to screen in it for a little refuge from the bugs if I want to hang out with the dogs in the backyard! I'm going to use your method, I'm very much a beginner, but you make it look very easy! :)

Hello Dear Family. My husband and I have lived outside the US for the last 12 years. Mostly in Asia. Have had to do our own home improvements where ever we live. 3 years here on the island of Antigua in the West Indies because of his work. I just googled how to make an awning for my tiny bungalow because I want one , and there you were. I’m 64 years old and not afraid of a saw , a ladder, or a drill. Haha so to motivate my husband I get everything set up and he freaks out when I start the saw and after months of begging my DIY projects get done. The first video I saw you talked to all your pets and I just remembered their names. Warmed my ❤️
@diyamerican
@diyamerican 2 года назад
That's so awesome! Thanks for sharing a bit about your life! It sounds exciting! I would love to hear all about your story. For several years we ran a bed and breakfast in our home so I thought maybe you were one of our former guests since you knew the animals names. I love the fact that you watched other videos and gathered all of their names. Unfortunately we ended up selling our place in the Pacific Northwest and had to sell all of our critters as well except for Monsieur Nibbles IV (the cat) and Higgins (the dog). We moved out to Kansas back in May and just a few days ago we moved again (still within Kansas) into our special little Home on the Prairie. If you are at all interested in our adventures in the Midwest you might like to follow our new channel which is called Corn Fed Life. We are definitely inspired that at your age you are still doing lots of DIY projects while living abroad! We hope you'll keep in touch!

@diyamerican

Depends, If you want it to stick out 8' from the home I'd recommend posts from the frame to the ground to secure it rather than braces to the to the side of the house. If it is going to extend only 4' out from the house then another brace from the extended frame horizontally should do the trick. Thanks for watching!

Hello, Im trying to gather all wood material for my project. Mine will be somewhat similar to yours. Mine will be a 4x9 covering on my back porch. I'm looking to building a pergola using (5) 2x4 rafters as you did and (3-4) 1x4 crossbeams. However, I believe there will be a bit overkill. I was thinking of using 2x2 rafters and 1x2 crossbeams using the same roof paneling you 'd used in this video. Is that polycarbonate you'd used for your roof panel? So Im not sure to build a pergola or an awning, what do you think?
@diyamerican
@diyamerican 2 года назад
Hey Angelo. I can't remember what the roofing was exactly, some sort of plastic from Lowe's. It's hard to say whether a pergola or awning would be better without seeing your doorway. On this same channel I have several videos of different styles of awnings and one that has pillars sort of like a pergola. I'd suggest watching some more videos or even doing a Google image search and see all the different options out there. Best of luck with your project. God bless!

Not the best way to go about building it but good job for a diy. Would be much easier to build then install.

Hi Janeth! I believe you're referring to the "rafter ties". You can find them at any time improvement store. Good luck with your project! God bless!

I would not wear gloves or jewelry etc that has any chance of snagging on a power saw blade.

Almost everything is done wrong in this video. You should have a licensed contractor, or at least someone with some knowledge about construction, look at it and help you out.

What fun would that be? You must be one of Sensei Kreese's former students. 😁😜😂

Got some weaknesses in design and fabrication, but nothing critical. The only thing I really didn't like is angling the left end of a board on the right side of the blade: because the right hand works the saw, the left arm was required to cross very near in front of the blade - eliminated by flipping the board to the left side.

I suppose you're referring to the saw that I picked up at a garage sale for probably $40 or $50. Most of the tools I use are well under $100. I guess if someone is still using sticks and rocks like a caveman from the Stone age then these tools could be considered fancy. 😂
