Here is a neat and easy project on how to make a chicken egg incubator. Doesn't take long to make. The eggs will hatch in 21 days. I give you all the guidelines for successfully incubating the chickens including what to do and how to make the incubator.

This is a nice Idea, And for the record, i live in Morocco (North-west of Africa) And there's a actually a way to recognize the fertilized egg by wrapping your fist around and direct it toward the sun, So the sunshine goes through the egg and then to your eye and you'll see a little something there, use an unfertilized egg to see the difference, This method is not new, it's really old and people are using it for a very long time...

It's called candling (candle-ing) you can also use flashlights and such.
@cyangrowsplants3126
@cyangrowsplants3126 3 года назад
Thats called candling, many people use it now. But you can only see it when it is a few days old. There is this Indian trick for finding a fertile egg, you keep your eggs in a bowl of water and the ones that sink are fertile and the ones that float are infertile.

@TheKiller641 its, ok to leave the box cracked open for a short period to get the temp back down. But not long, you will lose the humidity. Poke holes in it to get the temp and humidity right. I should do another vid of Moe, he hatched and is full grown now.

@davescopes249
@davescopes249 6 лет назад
I have made a couple of home made incubators. You can also connect to light bulb / Lamp up to a dimmer switch. Then you can control the heat a bit better. I did hatch some. But to be honest you really need it to run through a thermostat. I used a fish tank heater and just took it apart. Because if the temperature goes more than one degrees above or below the recommended temperature the eggs will die. And always use more than one light bulb inside the incubator. Because then if one blows then the other one will keep the eggs alive for longer than if there was no heat at all. Great video. Thanks
@epicfantasy
@epicfantasy 13 лет назад
@applepilgrim1 Depends on your incubator and how well it maintains heat. Use whatever wattage bulb will work. 60 watt bulb probably will work. But adjust this as needed!

Hey guys, I made my own incubator for the first time and it totally worked, I have 5 chickens now that I incubated myself, there would have been more but I screwed it up in the beginning of the process by leaving them alone with the temperature too high, but other than that it was a success. THANKS GOD!

@chirasen107 difficult to say. You have to get a thermometer and a humidity reading inside there. it is very important.

@jeremiahweed94 this is an excellent point. You should never write on the eggs. The egg absorbs stuff through the shell. i did, but I used crayola non toxic, water markers. I think that was ok.
@epicfantasy
@epicfantasy 11 лет назад
hmm, you should put the old bulb back and try a larger water container. that might do it. Then try holes in the cooler. You can always tape the holes if too many or too large.
@epicfantasy
@epicfantasy 13 лет назад
@seamusodaltoon I just rotated before bed and then in the moring when I got up. I think that would be ok.
@epicfantasy
@epicfantasy 13 лет назад
@raphandlil I am not sure. But I am sure that a reptile egg will have different temperature and humidity requirement. You definitely have to look that up.
@epicfantasy
@epicfantasy 13 лет назад
@reafernandez20 I really am not sure. The temp probalby has to be different. Gotta research it.
@epicfantasy
@epicfantasy 12 лет назад
See how mine is centralized between the sides. Try to get it like that. Just get as much distance as possible. Low wattage bulb should be quite ok. Just make sure it is stable so it doesn't somehow move and touch the sides.
@epicfantasy
@epicfantasy 13 лет назад
@tapooka not sure, they probably need a different temperature.

@HoangXinh I am not sure about the fan. It it probably an automatic thing. If you make your own incubator the fan will probably be too much. Test and see.
@epicfantasy

@beastlychic1 it releases some heat, just be quick! and monitor afterwards. It will be ok. Good luck with the baby chicks!
@epicfantasy
@epicfantasy 13 лет назад
@adolfo1514 Yes, you need to watch temperature and humidity very closely. I bought one at walmart. I think it was 8 dollars.
@epicfantasy
@epicfantasy 12 лет назад
try a smaller watt bulb or punch a few holes in the incubator.
@epicfantasy
@epicfantasy 12 лет назад
@rosered84 hmmm, maybe a second dish. Also you can wrap the inside with aluminum foil. This will seal it. Probaby not need the holes anymore which will increase the humidity. Try a smaller light bulb too, this will reduce the need for holes too.
@epicfantasy
@epicfantasy 12 лет назад
@wilhelmpaoloquinto Yes, it is possible those eggs are ok for a week. As long as they come from a farm and not the store.

@ohpoopy23 I am not 100% sure what you mean. I put the bulb through the side of the cooler. Away from the chicken eggs.
@epicfantasy
@epicfantasy 13 лет назад
@TheJoseboii Try a stronger bulb. but first check for leaks in your incubator. That is the most common problem.
@epicfantasy
@epicfantasy 12 лет назад
@ohpoopy23 ok, now I understand. That should be quite ok. The big thing is that it stays away from the eggs! keeping the inside a steady temperature.
@epicfantasy
@epicfantasy 12 лет назад
@TomAndJerry246 yes, just add water. Use a low watt bulb and keep it away from the sides.
@epicfantasy
@epicfantasy 13 лет назад
@walidhighlvl I don't know. sorry. You have to look up the specifics for that species. The temperature/humidity and incubation time will all be different. That is for sure.

@HotKevin4 Any hardware store wil have it on rolls. Typically you can buy it in small sections. Lowes, Home Depot, Ace. It isnt mandatory for this project. You could do it all without the chicken wire and it would be ok.

@efoneoutlaw I don't know. YOu have to reserch canary eggs to find otu what temperature they need. Then experiment with bulbs.

@irunforlive12 add another dish or a wider dish. More surface area of water helps. And if you had to poke holes you might try a smaller bulb and plug up the holes. this will help retain humidity.

@BoomBeepBoomBeep bulbs are very durable if you simply leave them on. They almost never blow out. The big strain on them is the turning on and off. You should be good because this bulb stays on. I would do my best to try to get a spare bulb and keep it in reserve. the baby chicks are worth that effort :)
