Hello! Fancy a cuppa? An ASMR ‘tongue in cheek’ tutorial on how to make a good old reliable English cup of tea…. This has been on my ‘videos I really want to make’ list since the beginning of this channel. I am working on a few exciting ASMR things in the background at the moment so it seemed the perfect time for this little video…. exciting things will be announced in time :-D
I hope you’re having a positive start to this new week. With love, Emma XX Ps. I seem to be sporting rather Chipolata style fingers in this video. Made me chuckle during editing. Mustn't be my best side ;-D

In Sweden we drink mostly coffee. I quit and so now I drink a lot of tea. It's soothing and comes in so many flavors. I have never seen a round tea bag, here they are square or pyramid shaped, with a string attached to pull the bag out of the cup and wring it out. I would say half of us drink it with milk, the other half, like my self, drink it without milk. I use sugar or honey. Here, indian spicy chai is popular, that requires milk for the right taste. :)

I definitely drink a couple cups of a builder's brew. I never knew it was called that. I hate when the tea hasn't steeped. I also hate too much milk. +BunnaySango I like a strong brew too, but I have to have decaf tea leaves so when I brew tea in the morning its a test to leave the bag in there long enough for flavour but not so long that it actually gets cold. I live everyday in suspense seeing what it turns out like and trying to improve.
@TheGroucho66
@TheGroucho66 8 лет назад
+BunnaySango I'm a huge fan of Christopher Hitchens and George Orwell; both of whom wrote an essay about the proper way of making tea. I'll say a few of the rules that they both say are essential. Firstly, the water must be at boiling point when it first hits the tea. This is best achieved by bringing your teapot/mug to the kettle rather than taking the kettle to your teapot/mug so that as little amount of time passes between the water reaching boiling point and the water making contact with the tea. Secondly, you must stir the tea before letting it steep and also you must allow the tea to steep for - as you said - at least 2 minutes. Thirdly, the tea must go first and then the milk shall proceed it. Those who put the milk in first are sadistic. The argument that Orwell used, that is said is "unanswerable" is that, by putting the tea in first, you are able to perfectly regulate the tea to milk ratio whereas, if you put milk in first, it is quite possible to have put too much milk in to begin with. Fourthly, NO SUGAR. Orwell maintains that there is no point in adding sugar because it overwhelms the taste of the tea and that, for those who say they use sugar to cover up the taste of the tea, they might as well drink plain boiled water with added sugar OR at least they should spend a few weeks drinking sugarless tea in order to convert them. Orwell provided like 6 other rules however they are very outdated and go on about Indian vs Chinese tea, pewter teapots vs enamel teapots, loose tea, muslin bags, etc.

Nah ya see I make my tea in a stainless steel teapot! Boil the kettle slowly on the hob then fill the teapot with the water up to a certain level depending on the number of cups, add 1 YORKSHIRE TEA bag per person then let it mash for 5-10 minutes, 7.5 is preferable, while that's mashing add semi-skimmed to the fine bone china cup (mugs are for coffee and paper cups are for the bin) then pour the tea into the milk, add 2 sugars and enjoy with some Betty's confectionary! Done :P

Hurrah! At last, a tea-making video that accurately demonstrates how to make a proper English cuppa! Most other videos on You Tube seem to suggest tea is made with lots of fancy equipment such as fancy tea pots, tea-strainers and expensive loose tea. Also no-one mentions that the water must be absolutely boiling hot when added to the tea bag. Once it's gone "off the boil" the tea fails to brew properly and you end up with a cup of lukewarm weak tea. Yuk. Well done on telling it like it really is, except in reality we Brits bung in the tea bag, add the water and stir/ squeeze the bag in about 20 seconds, then slop in the milk. I can't wait too long for my drink!! Lol

I'm from Yorkshire so we drink a lot of tea round these parts. Good to see someone leading the way on how to make a tea good and proper! I think I just channeled my grandad saying that haha. All these years and I've never been witness to such a hilarious and tingly cuppa, thank you Emma. I look forward to hearing about what's to come for you and your channel :)

Brilliant video, Emma! I adore your sense of humour. :) I'm an avid tea drinker, too, although I'm Australian (but raised by Scottish parents). I thought it was apt to be drinking a cuppa while watching this in bed the first time (this is my second watch-through), so that's what I did. :) You should definitely follow this up with a builder's tea-making tutorial!

Finally! No long minutes of rattling crinkling tapping sounds but nice soft sophisticated Emma talking in a show and tell fashion. Nice one, thanks (as is the dunking one)! Also, it has a cultural value from a really authentic ("hardcore") source :-)

Thanks, WhispersRed! I am a through-and-through tea drinker (Canadian), but recently found myself on the coffee bandwagon, and very unhappy about it. I dislike coffee, but having a coffee drinking-boyfriend means that there is always some made, so it's just very convenient. I felt myself having caffeine and sugar crashes after lunch, so after a few months of tea betrayal, this video helped me get back on the bandwagon! I usually drink loose-leaf tea, which I brew in either a metal strainer or a biodegradable tea sachet, but someone brought me a gift of English Williamson Tea (in an elephant tin! So ASMR-inducing), so I've been enjoying that.

I absolutely love tea! I'm not much of an Anglophile though, so I prefer my tea oriental style, plain and with milk or sugar. If my tea is of low quality, like from a bag at an average store in America, like say Lipton, I'll generally add some sugar to it to make it more tolerable. I dislike the bitter tastes of what I call "commoner's tea". It's quaint and familiar though, so I'm not against drinking it. My favorite tea is loose leaf, boiled and drank alone, as many people enjoy it in China and Japan. I like the more pure, earthy, rustic tastes of the tea when it's brewed this way, and I prefer dark teas to green ones. Green teas have a lively and bitter perk to them, but dark teas have a regal and strong taste I enjoy very much. I actually dislike milk in my tea, as I think it takes away from the taste. Although, I have to admit, I've never tried it English style. I'll have to do that! Either way, I love all tea! Coffee is a different story.

I should say that I enjoy my tea plain and WITHOUT milk and sugar. Typos. 😏
