How to Make and Attach 2D / Flat Fursuit Eyes

How are there like, NO 2D / flat fursuit eye tutorials on youtube?! So here's my contribution! I wish I had this video when I made the rat and boar heads.... hopefully this is helpful to y'all!
For these kind of eyes, you add them on AFTER the fur has been glued to the head! As opposed to 3d / follow-me eyes, which are added before the head is furred.
Any questions? Just ask!
Next tutorials coming soon: velcro eyelids, and a poseable boar tail!
Also in the works: lined armsleeves, removable shoe feetpaws, and follow me fursuit eyes!
MATERIALS:
Thick felt for eyelashes (try not to use the thinner stuff)
White eye plastic (or foamies, but they're not very sturdy)
Mesh (vinyl aida in the cross stitch section of Joanns, or window screening from home depot/lowe's, or Darice plastic mesh, or buckram cloth from Fursuitsupplies, etc)
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Paint brushes
Foam scraps / foam brushes
Acrylic paint
Scissors
Xacto blade
Sand paper
Paper for templates
Spray sealant (like Rustoleum Matte Clear sealant)
Needle and thread
WHITE EYE PLASTIC:
It's called "polystyrene" and I got it off etsy! The .03 mm thickness seems sturdy enough for a fursuit eye without being too thick to cut with scissors.

Random little tip! If you're using Foamies for the eyes instead of plastic, do multiple coats of mod podge! Do one coat, sand it lightly when dried, do another coat about 3-5 times. It hardens the foam and puts a pretty sturdy protective barrier on them!

This is neat and super helpful! A tip I found out for anyone using buckram mesh- you can use a sharpie to recolor the backside black!
@freckledcatcreations
@freckledcatcreations 3 года назад
ooh, be careful of sharpie. it bleeds with alcohol ! and people spray alcohol on the suit to clean it up. why not just use acrylic paint , just as cheap and resistant to water.

@freckledcatcreations

@@KosmiDeath np!! and i think sealing might help! i think people usually go for like... clear coat sealant? maybe? just make sure you poke out the holes, dont let em get clogged, once I painted mod podge on mesh and i didnt unclog the holes and then even though it dried translucent it kinda affected vision and possibly will affect ventilation!

You absolutely can! It's a lower quality material though, so just be aware. Foamies are softer and bend and warp easier. It's a good material for beginners but eventually people should move up to using plastic / 3d printed stuff !

I keep wondering if I should use 2d or 3d Eyes for my fursuit I’m about to make. My fursona doesn’t have pupils, his eyes are just straight yellow, so I thought it would kinda be useless to go through to trouble of getting 3d eye blanks. BUT I like the way the eyes are set back into the fursuits eye socket, it makes it feel more real. I feel like it would be more reasonable and better visibility to have 2d eyes but 3d has my heart 😔

@freckledcatcreations
@freckledcatcreations 4 года назад
I've used both! So buckram i feel is less of a uniform mesh, it's not perfectly gridded out and sometimes there's smaller holes and bigger holes etc. i also find it can crease and it kinda feels less sturdy than vinyl? the aida has just as good vision if i recall, especially when you paint the back black. vinyl aida takes acrylic paint well! couple coats and its good. if you wanna add some extra protection, spray a sealant on it like krylon clear coat.
