You have to start with the dry start method, the damp method, you can get a nice view even if it is not a very long term plant. After all, they are not a complete aquarium plant.

@@ceyhunderindere Are you talking about the type of plant seeds you used? I believe my grandson dropped in seeds that sprouted a short grass and it fully carpeted the tank even with fish in it. I do realize that some bog plants require being mostly above water to flourish and unfortunately many fish stores sell terrestrial plants that are sold as aquarium plants like cane. They look nice for a while but then deteriorate no matter what you do.

Dont. These are not true carpeting plants and only look this way for a short time. They grow long stems and or melt away after being submerged for an extended periods.

For someone just starting out, this wouldn't be the best source for this info. Go look at Big Al's or Aquarium Co-Op. And a heater is really only needed for fish that require heated water, normally from 76-79.

Small grain is important, for roots

You can use hagen or creek sand, active soil

Rinse your sand a few times. Then place a clean hand towel and stack paper towels on top of that, and slowly pour water onto the said stack until it fills up. Trust me, I did it this way with black sand, my tank was as clear as ever. You just need to let the tank settle. Oh and of course wait until good bacteria develops before introducing fish.

Petco sells sand that's very clean. When I rinsed it once t was already clean. They have white and black. It only comes in 20 pound bags though.

@@ceyhunderindere Monte Carlo easier to grow... Cuba (aka Baby Angel Tears) alot more demanding... I tried Cuba 1st... it didn't survive.... even though I have pressurized CO2 and mid lighting... so I switch to Monte Carlo... and now I have a carpet of it.

@@azimbinazmi - Hi there. Yes fungus can grow if you don't do this method properly. You need to spray it once a day and also make sure there is no puddles around the substrate after you've sprayed. You only need a little spray. Then, when you cover the top of the fish tank leave a little opening. Don't fully cover it. Also, whilst this is growing try not to keep the tank near an open window. Lastly, you cannot do this without covering the top. If you don't cover the top, it doesn't retain humidity and also, you have more chance of fungus growing.
