I’ve done this for my freshwater tank everything I’ve bought plants since watching this video! I have NEVER had a problem and I have t had a snail problem in over a year!
then maybe you can explain to me how I get snails in my tanks when I have never bought anything & just have water in a tank and without any plant's & no fish or waste ?
@@unitedwestanddividedwefall2073 Did you buy the tank, filter or heater second hand? Could have had snail eggs on them maybe. Or substrate can sometimes have snail eggs. If you have no plants or fish in there just dump a bunch of aquarium salt in there and that will kill them. Or you can just squash them.
Love that you’re from my home province :) I’ve spent a lot of time in Truro as I have family there. Congratulations on your success. You’ve worked hard for everything and now your hard work is paying off. Good luck with the book!
Didnt treat my plants before adding them in my planted discuss tank & yep two weeks Later snails everywhere but then I noticed my discuss eating the snails
Love the old-school DIY video. Bring me back to the time when I was learning how to build tanks and that’s how I found you on RU-vid. And you were skinny and dorky
I'm quarantining my plants the slow way, at 86°F for 5-7 days. I welcome snails because the tank is for puffers, but I'm concerned with ich, velvet, etc. I am currently on day 5 with 86-88°, and am lowering the tank to around 82° to accommodate the fish. It has been 5 days at 86 and the first two days at 75° I plan on a water change tomorrow in preparation of adding fish. Will tomorrow be a safe time to introduce, or should I wait a few days longer?
@@lindaisyoutubing yes should do Linda. I leave mine for half an hour though. Where joey leaves his for 15 - 20. Some of the more delicate species of plants you have to be careful with the peroxide though. 👍
I don't think using Salt with plants is a safe option specially with delicate and rare plants. Salt dehydrates healthy leaves and roots causing undue melting and rotting, at times the plant may even die.
Let alone the force he used to shove the plants into the bowl you can hear a lot of them breaking. I would always go one by one rather than just shove them all into a bowl or tub (I get soaking them all together but than you have some that are soaking longer than others while you clean one possibly causing more harm than good)
I just wanna take a min and thank u for teaching me a lot of things over the last two years. I have a history of keeping aquariums and then moving from city to city and again getting back to the hobby. Everytime i get an aquarium i start off with the basics firmer and better coz of u. So thank u a lot.😀 PS: Dont stop filming!!
i just started planting staurogyne repens in my tank when it was a little nub and now its like 2 inches high, they're growing!!!!!! can't wait to grow that s.repens carpet out 😍
I'm not sure if you've made a video on this before but I'd love to see a video on battling BBA. It's the toughest algae damnit. That would be really helpful thanks!
2.6k views in 15min, I would never have expected this channel to blow up like it has when I first started watching you build stuff on a set made of sheets for fewer viewers in a day than you now get in minutes. You have done an amazing job with this channel. I still love every episode you put out and look forward to every new update on the gallery.
What funny is I I feel the same. And being from Nova Scotia where he’s also from makes it even better! I’ve never met Joe irl btw! He lives a nice 1.5 hours from my town which is where we both go for 1fish2fish!
Nice try to help, but very bad information because you don’t specify the strength of the “peroxide” (hydrogen peroxide) at what strength? 3% or 35% people will get very different results with different strengths of solution.
PLEASE MAKE SURE ALL OF YOU FOLLOW THIS VIDEO - I JUST HAD A LEACH OUTBREAK BECAUSE I DIDN'T PROPERLY CLEAN SOME PLANTS AND NO ONE SHOULD EVER HAVE TO GO THROUGH THAT
Will the Hydrogen peroxide kill worms? And I have PP for snails so don't need the salt part I assume. Or do I need both to kill everything? Last time I used Potassium Permanganate I got a TON of some kind of worm in a brand new tank and wasn't pleased. Thank you for your video.
Awesome information, as I've been there done that with new plants and then beeing over run with snails! Thank you. I would like to get some new plants and I will definitely use this info.
In-vitro plants might be actually cheaper in some countries. I don't prepare my plants like this, but then I've got issues with hair algae already and some snails. You don't need to cure your plants, BUT you need to achieve a balance in your tank. Otherwise you can expect a calamity.
enjoy watching the videos I even watch them multiple time. I have a question Would 10 mm glass be ok for a aquaruim that's 30inches long by 16inches high by 16inches deep ?
If they are new most plants you buy in-store are grown emersed and when they get submersed there is melting, the plant is probably gonna be fine if you let it be. Source: I grow my plants emersed to speed up propagation
Gosh, I tried it to now. After 20 minutes of soaking in salt. I've noticed that my greeping burhead have burn marks and look like it's start to melt😥. I soak all of my new aquatic plants. I hope they can recover and survive 😭
I had a snails problem in a 5 gallons tank. Hand-removed every individual snails I found for at least over 3-4 months, so it was a controled invasion but it was very annoying. They completly disappear when I introduced a new betta in the tank. I didn't think that could happen, but yeah !! XD He ate them all before they could lay eggs. And thanks for these awesone tricks, I will definetely do that when I buy new plants so that never happen again !
god bless your betta. mine did no such thing. bought a yoyo loach to eat the snails and for a while i no longer saw even eggs on the glass. now, it's like he doesn't even bother. :/ i'm ready to bust out the assault pea puffers! lol
@SeaWaterPro thats what confused me, 15 mins is for the peroxide that matches other sources, but everybody says for the 1 cup/gallon salt its 20 second
I want your help...please help me. I want to Make a glass aquarium of length 10 feet ,widht 4 feet and 6 feet in height. please tell me whether is it possible to be made or not, if yes then guide me about the thickness of glass and related information on how to make it leak proof.
Hey Joey! I just got here from watching life in jars channel, ever seen it? He makes enclosed ecospheres in jars. He has a funny dry style I enjoy. Give him a look maybe. Oh, great vid btw!
I like it, Just one question.. After doing this do you need to like wash off any residue of the mixture you bathed the plants in or is it just planting time?
Wanna get rid of snails in the aquarium? Two words - assasin snails. Step 1. Buy assassin snail Step 2. Put it in the aquarium Step 3. Chill and wait for the results.
Gotta say I followed this advice exactly except i used kosher salt. Im now left with a heavily planted tank full of transparent plants. Even my swords got nuked. Just be carful when doing this process. Either do less salt per gallon, maybe half a cup or less time. Check them after 2 minutes to see how they are holding up.
hmmmm seen another video b4 yours and the woman stated to only dip the plants in the peroxide solution & salt solution for 20 seconds, she also said that when dipping in both substances to not dip the roots as the salt and / or peroxide will damage the plant..... you say dip it all and for 20 mins...... who do i believe lol, 2 drastically different instructions
Salt will kill your plants. If your dosing salt for a parasitic event in your aquarium then yes your plants will melt and possibly die. Dipping though your supposed to leave the roots out I believe.
@@sebastianhofer4950 instead of taking advice from random people on RU-vid wether it be a comment or a video and simply Google aquarium plants and salt. Don't dip plants in salt I've tried it before and it killed rotala, Amazon sword, java moss and multiple species of crypts. They slowly wilted away in the next few weeks after the salt dip.
I would assume so, peroxide degrades into O2 and H20 under UV light (this happens quite quickly). Peroxide could react with stone or something if it has iron in it for example and change the color.
