after watching all of these "make a diy target" safe to say that number one item needed which nobody has is a workshop and a factory that provides you with materials near your house
@@kalikasurf lmao yeah, literally all you need for a target is mainly wood, a hammer and nails (or a drill) and some sort of canvas or foam materials, and/or plastic sheeting/bags.
I have watched several vids on DIY archery targets and this vid is the best to watch and looks most practical. Really appreciate you taking the time to make this vid and share it. Great job!!
That's a pretty cool idea for a target! I'll have to remember this when my old target is worn out! I can use the foam inside it to put into one like this. I have most of the stuff already to make this. I was looking for a stand for my target when I found this. Liked.
Great video. Gave me some good ideas for making a new and improved version. Looked like the steps were too many and overly tedious though. Definitely didn’t like all the staples - They’ll eventually be struck by an errant arrow or loosen from rust and end up on the ground for you or your dog to step on. I currently use a couple targets made out of a double heavy-duty burlap bag filled with sofa stuffing. They are very light to easily throw into the back of a pickup and they last forever - never matting up or failing to stop an arrow, at least from my 62 lb. osage orange longbow.
Use to build small wooden cabin/tents with wooden dowels we would put soap on the dowel so it would swell inside the hole and create a permanent hold. Great target!
i use cartons discarded from my work just bind them with plastic wrapper and attach target which is homemade using spray paint, when its full of holes, throw in garbage and repeat.
Must not be seeing very many. While this will work, it is a lot of work for something that is designed to eventually break down. The spray foam isnt a durable material and will deteriorate rather quickly, especially with heavy draw bows. The semi-permanent construction makes it difficult to replace interior components.
The vid should be titled, "How an OCD Person Makes an Archery Target", lol. Seriously pretty good job. The backside of the target more suitable for crossbows I imagine ;D
Nice video. Great idea, I made something like this. I excluded wooden frame. If You hit it it will damage the Al arrow for sure. Carbon is safe tu use on this.
That's great if you got a ton of time on your hands I just took two burlap sacks put one inside the other and pack it full of heavy plastic and tie it shut and in 10 minutes I'm ready to go paint a Target on it and Wallah done
I use old kids rubber play tiles cut in half , stacked together about 3 foot high and strapped with a ratchet strap around a board at each end, that’s my back stop with another target in front
Best target I've found is a target butt made out of dirt/earth. It will stop anything and arrows are easy to pull out. It is cheap and available everywhere.
Instead of dicking around with all that ironing of the plastic bags, just use a cheap heavy duty outdoor tarp and fold it over multiple times, or use burlap.
I wouldnt say at part of this build was "easy." Every step was made complicated. And the use of the spray foam take away from the cheap aspect of the build. Use discarded carpet or old denim material...cheaper and easier.
my advice to you if you make another target use the same stuff, but make sure put a layer of old child's blankets and jeans(3 pair of jeans along with all those foam) in as well, cause a weak bow will not go through it, but a fast bow will later on
Cheaper & simpler: Collect lots of corrugated cardboard & simply tie &/or glue &/or tape together. c.12-20 layers good for most bows though you need to keep clear of rain or damp. Much more biodegradable. Hay bales are reasonable though often a little too soft. Paper FITA target faces can be had quite cheaply too rather than spray paint, or just collect roundals of paper. Interesting video though. Wonder how many copying it will burn their boss/shed etc using blow torch on plastic/wood/foam/fabric.
Hello, thanks for your video, it looks really easy to make, I would like to know what type of bow you use, since I want to make one for a 70 pound compound bow and about 330 fps
What bow poundage did you use? Will polypropylene spray foam stop arrows from 40-50 lbs bow from 3-10m? I want something to practice indoors during winter :P
That is sone really nippy music btw. We use foam insulation too. Any building site has loads of the stuff. Ask them if you can do a skip dive after shifts over and they might just sort u out. 😉
A piece of 1×4×8 foam insulating board cut to the size of a small size moving box would be faster, easier and yield the same result. You can make 2 for about $15 in material.
Nice target! But your KILLING me with that HACK SAW! Just get a small hand held miter saw, or a simple crosscut wood saw! Back away from the metal saw to cut wood! :D!
One of the reasons to use a hacksaw is that it's cheap, & versatile. The best thing about a hack saw is when you wear out the blade, replacing it is cheap & easy. Also doesn't take up as much space to store as what you are describing.
Nice! However I still think the laziest solution is an at least 25cm (~10 inches) thick polystyrene board. It is cheap, require zero work and catches the arrows from my 60lbs compound (however the arrows go ~halfway through it until stop).
You should use extra material for the front covering and pull it around the sides of the frame and staple it to the back. Fixing it to the front of the frame will lead to the front cover collapsing inwards after several shots into the target.
@Jon Cole Scissors are a common household item.I have a pretty well equipped workshop.Toolbox with spanners, sockets, cutting pliers etc.Orbital and belt sanders, high pressure cleaner, electric drills,Dremel and many other tools, but why would everyone need and industrial stapler and blow torch-I do not so commented on that.
@Jon Cole Bummer-why are we always missing some thing. I have what we call a wool bag, obviously is for wool.Stuff that with plastic wrap/pallet wrap that you could get from a bedding or furniture place for free. Will even stop a compound arrow
