Hey, there! You're probably using Elementary Loki already, but have a look at the KXStudio repositories, they have Ardour 5.3 and many other apps/plugins for audio. Pretty much plug and play in my machine, highly recommended.
very nice, I'm actually running Ubunutu 16.04 at the moment with Cinnamon and Docky, which makes it very visually similar to Elementary used above. I'm also a Mixbus user which is like an enhanced version of Ardour with an upgraded mixer. I haven't tried Ardour 5.3 yet though so maybe I'll check out the new KXstudio repos. Thanks!
I struggle like crazy with qjackctl, so I installed a Windows version daw with wine and everything works better than on windows (no crash at all, latency lower than with asio like 5ms), I tried again with Ardour and jack, but it doesn’t want to recognize my separate audio interface with xlr for my mic. So I’ll stick with wine 😅
For linux or just in general? If in Linux, LMMS is pretty good for electronic stuff. It has a lot of built in plugins and is pretty easy to use. It's a little limited, but can produce great results. If windows, you can also run LMMS, but there's better options such as Cubase or FL Studio. Mac has Garage Band is a great place to start with electronic music because of having many features and pretty easy. If you want more advanced, there's Cubase for Mac or Logic Pro, though I don't really care for Logic.
demonic sweaters I'm pretty much strictly Linux, and I'd heard of LMMS so I'll give it a go. Just seems like electronic music would be a place where Linux could be in the forefront.
Agent800 well LMMS is the way to go then. Unfortunately Linux is still behind Windows and Mac OS for a/v production on almost all accounts. but it kinda makes you think outside the box a bit though because of its limitations which can produce some nice results.
