the boldness to do a techno kick tutorial without doing a 4x4 pattern is inspiring

Good to see someone synthesizing their own drums. Sound design is so key to having one’s own sound in my opinion

Sound design is important to creating your own sound but think of what you really want and work smart. If it's mad as fuck sound design then this is a good tutorial, if you just want to smash out tracks to become a better producer then a solid kick sample pack is much smarter than making your own. Don't fall into the trap of thinking you need to make everything or you'll end up wanting to make the plug ins as well lol

Jesus so many different working techniques. This is fantastic thanks for this. Very much appreciate an insight into someone else's working methodology. That's so invaluable in and by itself. One thing I don't like however is this endless feature creep/overlap. Like for example high passing that reverb. You can do it with an EQ built into the reverb itself and using the built-in EQ or a plugin EQ or whatever. Why have an EQ in the reverb itself? It's just doubling up on an already existing feature to add to the overall features clutter and further confuse people. Nothing to do with the video of course which is brilliant. Thanks again.

@DigitalJMusic 4 года назад
The build in equalizer is often related to the incoming signal. most of the time you want it after the signal and since that is not the case, you use an equalizer after. Depending on the settings it creates a bit more rumble or smooth things out, kind of depends on the functions your desired reverb has.

All of these methods for creating a [insert sound here] can get pretty specific. Then the methods come into fashion, and pretty soon *you* are in fashion. Then gone the next day. I think that is the philosophy behind doing something "from scratch." I think it is almost superstition as much as it is functional. I try to subscribe to both camps just to keep my sanity.

I like everything except the kick!! Strange pattern on it and i think a 4/4 909 style kick would sound much better.
@lambd01d
@lambd01d 3 года назад
There's nothing strange about it. Chris Jarman aka KSP said people complained when he played tunes that weren't straight 4 on the floor and did a mix containing only sycopated tunes. I personally like syncopated techno because I've been listening to techno and its offshoots since 1990 and I'm open-minded unlike a lot of techno purists. Although 909 kicks are a classic sound why would you always want to use one? Boooring.
