Woah ^_^ thanks for showing us how to make boot cover, with your tutorial it would not be that intimidating to start out trying !!!

Give it a try! It's tricky at first but it's not so hard once you get used to it :D

Almost 4 years later this is still INCREDIBLY helpful. I’m building a Link cosplay (this is my first time) and the boots were kind of intimidating at first. Random question; about how much fabric did you need to cover the boots? I’m thinking that a yard or maybe 3/4 of a yard would be plenty but I’m not sure.
@mangalphantom
@mangalphantom Год назад
I'd say 1m X 1m fabric would be sufficient for a single boot, so doing 2 boots would require around 2m? (~2.5 yards?)

Great tutorial! Thanks for putting it together. What brand of boots are the ones that you used?
@mangalphantom
@mangalphantom 3 года назад
These are some generic brand boots from Target - specifically from the women's section (men's section seem to lack any boots!). If the tall part of the boot is rigid, it'll typically be a bit easier to work with :)
@NeonOkamiCosplay
@NeonOkamiCosplay 3 года назад
thank you so much for this! did you use a specific type of fabric for this? mine keep bunching up :(
@mangalphantom
@mangalphantom 2 года назад
I didn't use any special fabric for this method! I've made boot covers with this method out of suede, cotton, even silk!
@Stuttsis

Wow thank you. I was going crazy because I thought it would be impossible to cover real boots. So I don´t need to add a zipper at the back if I can slide my leg into it with no problem?
@mangalphantom
@mangalphantom 2 года назад
Sorry for the late reply! If you can slide your leg in with no problem, a zipper will be unnecessary! But, a zipper will usually make it easier to wear everytime :)

Is there a way to make boot covers without sewing or can u show us some cheap alternatives to boot covers
@mangalphantom
@mangalphantom 3 года назад
You can try use the exact method I used here, just replace everytime I sewed something with hot glue instead. Replace the zipper with velcro (use more hot glue) and try your luck! The turnout will probably not be as nice, but if you REALLLLY hate sewing, this i probably the easiest method.
@Amylf10
@Amylf10 2 года назад
When sewing around the covers you do take the boots out and slide them back in right? Like when sewing tighter?
@mangalphantom
@mangalphantom 2 года назад
Yes, there should be plenty of room for the boots to slide out after sewing your first couple of lines. After pinning and marking where it needs to be tightened, you should only need to sew 1 or 2 extra lines to edit :)

How convenient, I need for my Naofumi cosplay too! Where did you get the boots themselves??

Great and easy tutorial two and a half year later. Thanks for showing this. Just how you made it so stiff? So its not folding itself together?
@mangalphantom
@mangalphantom 2 года назад
Thanks heaps! Just to clarify, are you asking about how the boots stay upright in the pictures when i'm not wearing them? Just so I could take photos, i put a large can of hairspray in each boot to hold them up! When there's no hairspray, the boot definitely can't stand up by itself!

If you want her to help you make stuff, be prepared to tell her what you love about it, or why you want to try it! Don't be scared to show off your passions to her :) Even if she doesn't approve, I hope you'll find a way to try out cosplay for yourself! Good luck!

I personally think this tutorial is kinda complete but I have just one question: which material is better for making boot covers? Or does it depend on the character? Which materials would you recommend me to use?
@mangalphantom
@mangalphantom 4 года назад
The best part about this method is that you can use pretty much any material you want! Just as long as the reverse side of the material works with hot glue (nearly all materials do!). Use whatever you think matches the rest of your outfit :)

What type of boots would you recommend
@mangalphantom
@mangalphantom 2 года назад
Ideally, you'd want to be able to easily slip your foot in and out of the boot/shoe very easily. Like, no hands required kind of easy. Those are the best kinds! Otherwise, any boot with a zipper on the side/back is awesome!
