@@ReillyWilde thank you so much! We will be emailing and posting about the bonus content in the next week or two - it’s just being finalized now. You’ll basically just email us a copy of your receipt and we will email you the bonus content!😊
All of the recipes look amazing. I love how real and down to earth you are . Loved the flying chick peas.😂😂 Your parents are so funny and adorable, you must have got the funny gene from them.
For making humous, I love using chana dal. Chana dal is basically chickpeas split in half with their shells removed. These cook from dry in 12 mins in a pressure cooker. This means you can make humous from dried chickpeas in under 15 mins.....I do this all the time. :-)
Nah, doesn’t work with the chana dal I get at my local India market. Even from the pressure cooker they come out partly hard if they’re aren’t cooked at least for 45min and soaked over night 😞.
@@MalaAnsoo I doubt the type of pressure cooker would make a huge difference but, for what it's worth, I use an Instant Pot to cook mine. I bought one after seeing @RainbowPlantLife demo a load of recipes in them.
@@lilly-uy9dq that worked for me when I cooked the chana dal in a saucepan.....be careful if adding baking powder / bicarbonate of soda to a pressure cooker as it makes the water very frothy. I did this exact method in my old manual pressure cooker and the water spurted out of the release valve....oopsie
In my hummus, instead of tahini, I use: ground almonds and cashews with sesame and olive oil. Gives it more texture and can more easily adjust the amount of sesame taste.
I can’t wait to try this hummus recipe. I pre- ordered “Big Vegan Flavor” and must say I love it. This book is truly the Bible for vegan cooking. Over the years I have been transitioning to a vegan life style. Your book does for vegan cooking what Julia Child’s first book did for French cuisine. Thank you Nisha. Keep the videos coming. Enjoy seeing your parents too.
THANK YOU - not only for your culinary genius but for also sharing your adorable family with all of us. Truly, your videos tickle my taste buds and my heart. Much love and sincere appreciation for you and your lovely family.
I made the braised chickpeas for dinner tonight. I am obsessed! The flavors are incredible and the texture is great. I can see myself happily making this over and over again. I absolutely love your channel and recipes. Looking forward to the book! Thank you. :)
Your parents are the sweetest! 🥰 they actually made me feeling kind of proud, that I preordered the minute I saw your announcement 😂 I might be a bit weird, I admit ☺️ And to promote for you as well: my 2 most favourite chickpea recipes are actually both from your Mealplan service 🤭 tried the newest one of the actual week yesterday and I‘m already more than hooked! 😍 Thank you so much for all of your hard work and so many delicious recipes! Can’t wait to get that huge book in my hands! Have a lovely weekend 🌻
🥰 thank you for all the love, Juliette! I’m delighted you’re loving the new chickpea recipe from the meal plans and honored you ordered my cookbook so early!!
I just made the hummus following Nisha's guidelines for canned chick peas and it tasted soapy. It took me a minute or two and a quick google to learn that it was probably from the baking soda when cooking the canned chick peas. So ... just a heads up.... I suggest a *very* little bit of baking soda and a very thorough rinsing. To fix the soapy taste I upped the salt and added more lime (one website suggested balancing the baking soda taste with acid). As suggested by Nisha in a different video I removed the peels from at least half of the chick peas. I got bored so I didn't finish the peeling process LOL Once I adjusted for the soapy taste it still came out pretty darn good and the texture was great. I will be making it again (and again). Thanks
If you don’t want to peal the garbanzo beans you can always purchase dried Chana Dhal, which is small, split, chickpeas with no skins. They last forever and make a luxuriously smooth hummus. Learned that from a great Lebanese channel.
That was the best ….. nothing better than parents ad- libbing and promoting their child’s accomplishments … I was laughing sooo hard and smiling…. soooo cute and natural .. just perfect!I’m glade you didn’t edit it .
just downloaded the PDF for the chickpea techniques. Thank you so so much for creating and giving us access to such a resource. I love your channel and vegan cooking but find it hard to keep up with video presentations and can't remember it all so a printed document or hard copy to refer to is perfect! So thoughtful. thanks.
I love chickpeas. Never thought about sprucing them up. I'm so glad that i found your channel. And i can't wait to try the marinade and the chickpea salad snadwich!
Thank you so much for all your recipes! Finding your channel these past years has helped my cooking so much. Excited to pre-order the book! (I am also an American Desi, my parents are literally carbon copies of yours and I love seeing your family's appearances in the videos; feels like home:)
It's worthwhile to note that chickpeas are about 2/3 carbohydrate, 1/3 protein. I would skip adding grain-type carbs to salads, and would generally use hummus as a condiment as part of a spread with veg/cheeses/proteins or eat it with a spoon.
Your parents are the CUTEST. Everyone needs to order the cookbook to protect their happiness at all costs.🥹 This video is so helpful. Chickpeas are a are a big staple in our home. Appreciate you❤
Ok now I don’t even know which recipe to start with. All look so delicious. Perhaps marinaded since I love zesty stuff best 🤔Thank you for all the great ideas ❤
i remember the first time i ate them and i haaaaated it so much. Since I learnt how to prepare them well, they are one of my favourite ingredients!!!! Curries, hummus, roasted in salads or just to snack, saucy on toast... the list goes on 💖
Thank you for these great tips! And I loved your parent's promo of your book - they are awesome. If I hadn't already pre-ordered back in March, they would have definitely convinced me too. ; }
Great ideas! I eat boring chickpeas every day on my huge salad. I look forward to making your recipes. Love your parents! So sweet they made me cry. 😊❤️
Different lifestyles have to be taken into consideration. I only have access to dried chickpeas (unless I want to spend a lot of money for canned in a specialty store), and even that is a trick finding them in Mexico. We live on a sailboat, in extreme heat, so to use the pressure cooker on our induction cooktop (to save propane that fuels the galley stove), we have to have all other power drainers off (Air Conditioner, for example), so as not to trip the circuit breakers. If I had access to canned for under $6/can, I would be thrilled!
Good question. I store them at room temperature in a storage container, but don’t completely close the container, leave it ajar. They’ll stay good for 3 to 4 days, though of course they’re crispiest on day one. You can revive them by tossing them with a bit of oil and spreading them out on a sheet pan and putting them in the oven at 350F for 5 to 10 minutes or adding them to a frying pan with a touch of oil.
Two tips: - canned chickpeas are nice, but welling and cooking them yourself is much tastier. And cheaper as well. - do not throw away the water that comes with them. You can use it to make vegan mayonaise, as it contains the proteins that replace the egg.
I’m so glad you showed how to roast chickpeas on the stovetop 👍🏻 My oven broke a few years ago but I can’t afford to have it repaired 😟 Your new cookbook looks phenomenal ✨💫✨But I want to buy your Instant Pot cookbook first as I just bought an IP a few weeks ago ☺️ And the new cookbook is almost as big as my kitchen so I don’t really have the space for it 😄
The Instant Pot cookbook is great!! My oven sucks too. I got a toaster oven even though I have a tiny studio. Between the Instant Pot and the toaster oven I can make what I need and bonus the whole place doesn’t heat up
The roasted chickpeas look amazing. I will definitely try them. But my experience with roasting vegetables and nuts is that a tablespoon of olive oil per pound is ample. Toss in a bowl to coat well with oil and any spices before spreading them out on the baking sheet. After draining, a 25oz can is probably 18-20oz of chickpeas or thereabouts. No need to pour three tablespoons of oil on them to get that crunch.
I love your recipes! Can you also provide links to the various plates and bowls that you use for the dishes once they are cooked. I'd love to have some of those in my kitchen.
Great video. Thanks so much for sharing your love for healthy, nutritious, & tasty food! Can you please share what kind of portable stove you're using? I'm looking for something I can use indoors. Thanks in advance!
Thank you for this video! I struggle with making a canned chickpea hummus, now I understand why! :-) Cannot wait to get your new cookbook. Love your videos!
Love all your chickpea recipes! My mom makes this ancient indigenous recipe where she mixes it with cabbage and carrots and it's simple but oh so good. I ate this dish 1st time in Mexico at a wedding as a side dish wirh mole but I forget what its called. Omg your parents are so funny! The way your dad said food lovers all over the world made me spit out my water😂 already ordered the food bible😂
Oh that sounds like a lovely dish, I’d love to learn more! And yes, we had the same reaction watching my dad say that 💀 and thank you for ordering my book ❤❤
I adore your parents! Great recipes (as always), but I always love when your parents make an appearance. Thankfully, I preordered your cookbook a while back. Don't want your mom angry! 🙂
Hi Nisha, I’ve been using the Oxo Chef’s Squeeze Bottles for oils. They’ve been working well for me. The caps screw on, so what happened to you in this video will not happen with the Oxo bottles.
If I'm using canned chickpeas to make hummus I preserve the drained auquofava from the can and use that to thin the mix in the blender.. no water involved
Hi Nisha! I just pre- ordered you book for my Kindle. I was wondering if I would still get the bonus? I’m so excited to try some of these chickpea recipes!!! Just found your RU-vid channel!
thanks for recommending some brands. I asked a lebanese coworker and she said to just buy whatever is in the grocery store. the one I bought was awfully BITTER
I don't wanna make your mom mad. D: But I can't afford to buy it! I wish there was something I could press that said "I'M SUPER INTERESTED IN THIS BOOK but I can't afford it yet," because I know preordering really helps gauge interest. 😭 It and your other book are on my wishlist! The recipes I've made from you have been genuinely phenomenal, so I know they will both become well-used in my house! Congrats again, you totally deserve it! (Also man your parents are so dang cute)
