Don't let the ball in your house is so brilliant. We can all hear our old coaches in our head saying "don't crowd yourself" or "hit the ball in front of you" or "you are late, prepare earlier"... This one thought point takes care of all of those in a more simple manner. Really smart. Thank you for your thoughtful content!
I started to notice not so long ago these 3 things to improve my forehand. Hitting the ball a bit in front of you, hitting when the ball it's on its highest point and doing the full swing. Instant improvement. So watching this vid now is great to know there is a reason for it 🙂
I love the image of not letting the ball into your house, especially since I tend to try to hit with the ball too close to me. You're great and so generous.
Anything you post is gold bro. Whether it's new things that we may not know before, things we know already but you give it a little twist and perspective, or things that we already know and you're reinforcing it... they're all very useful. Thank you, keep up the wonderful work!
Another amazing video Karue! Very informative and it's always great seeing how other coaches coach and perceive things, great insight for other coaches as well!
This is the kind of stuff I need - the mindset when hitting the ball. I like a video on how hard you feel like you’re swinging, when in the stroke do you feel you are putting in the most energy, how you get your racket to follow through and not stop (things like that).
Great advice offered here, for certain! My frustration today was that my rally ball all week was peaking and gaining strength. However, in games today, I was hitting balls into the net. My takeaway is to get more game time in during the week too. Maybe I'll start rally ball with serves. Thanks much for your valuable knowledge!
this is a great video. not many videos talk about this, but I've always focused on this as well. main difference between our game and golf is exactly this point. ball is not stationary so each shot is different. what we want to do is get into the right position so that we can make it as close as possible to that ideal contact point position so that it is like a stationary ball.
These are the absolute best videos from you guys. Karue your instructional videos are so great. My favorite on youtube for sure. I finally have a BH thanks to you!
Hey Karue...for me, this vid combined with your recent 90%/10% rule has really helped me to play my best tennis on my tennis journey...thank you!!...Walter's advice of protecting your house, the ball will dictate your shot and problem solving and learning thru entry and exit is a simple concept I can always take to the courts...I bought more apparel from TW this week with your link to support MTHQ...keep up great work...thanks again.
I wish you all the best with the channel. You and Intuitive Tennis really share so much good information for free it is incredible! You improved me a lot:) Thank you, stay healthy and good luck at the AO! All best!
The bit about *"entering" and "exiting"" the contact zone* is so good! Never heard that before, I think it has the potential to REALLY help me make good contact! Liked, subscribed, and commented - the least I could do for all your help - JD, Montreal
Yes. Yes. Yes. Karue, you are on to something. You have a that special something that makes it easy to listen to you, some might say, humility. I love the instructional videos. But I really love the various drills you bring to the table to help make learning tennis fun. Thank you, so much for your efforts. It's really appreciated.
As usual..absolute gold Karue (and Walter)! Love the format: in depth breakdowns with super memorable nuggets of wisdom. Consistent forward contact point is so fundamental. Now I will always try to tell myself not to let the bomb enter my house!
Great stuff. I think that this is a really good topic which is often overlooked in comparison with "technique". I look forward to seeing more keep it up!
Thanks for this. I am not a coach but I have used your videos (and Brian Daubuls) to coach my wife, a beginner, into hitting a very good consistent forehand.
I like what you say about focusing on what's in front moreso than what's behind you. Thinking about behind technique to much can cause paralysis by analysis. I'm taking your advice and concentrating on how my stroke is entering/exiting contact zone. Focusing more on things in front like; speed of incoming ball, direction, spin, depth, height, bounce, spacing etc... Thanks coach. 👍😊
Great point about focussing on what's happening in front. If I stop to think about my take-back, my shot is never as good as when I focus on the ball and where I want it to go. The take-back takes care of itself.
I'm going to show this video to my students. This is holy grail type of info for achieving consistency. Shout out to Walter for the analogy. I know ya'll were trying to be sensitive to those experiencing harsh realities. Just a classy effort man.
Good, solid points, Karue. I think that the most important thing you said was towards the end of the video: learn how to distinguish what you are doing right and what you are doing wrong. Obviously, you can't always have a coach on the court with you so you need to develop the ability to self-diagnose and self-correct.
Great video! You’ve been very upfront and honest about the skills necessary to play tennis at a higher standard. Most people simply don’t have the time or skills to hit the ball at an advanced level. But they can improve by addressing core contact and movement fundamentals. How important is wrist extension/layback in your forehand? Does it create lag in your opinion?
For any video showing two different angels of stroke, it worth a thumb up. To have a better mindset of making contac in front of body, taking a open stance and anchor more on right foot is a good tip, because u are almost parellel to the baseline.
Thanks Karue. Your videos have helped a lot. The "nothing ball" ball videos especially. I play club/rec level matches, and your information and drills help me really exceed in winning. Chhers
Great video and the format is nice! One suggestion: it’s useful to think about entering and exiting the “strike zone”. When talking about the point of contact, people usually have the idea of a point in space. Actually, what contributes to a clean contact is the smooth movement of the racket through the entire strike zone and what is key is the acceleration of the racket head from the start through the end of the strike zone. Thanks for idea of addressing the topic of clean contact with the ball; producing quality strokes is actually the essence of the game of tennis, in my opinion. Keep up the good work!
I'm really enjoying this new style of tennis channel format and content. I see a lot of open stance forehands here, when we have time to setup, when do we decide between closed or open stance forehand?
I love this format! Not only as a player, but as a coach it gives me new perspectives and ideas how to explain/work on this specific topic! Loved the bomb/house metaphor! Keep up the great work man, love it! :)
It's sad that I hit 'like' immediately then watch the video and am not able to hit 'like' again! I struggle with my contact point and my racquet entering the same it's been a long work in progress, thank you for this video.
Awesome video, really enjoying it and then watching how the pros replicate during the Aussie open. One question though, how much tension do you suggest both in the wrist and hand before, during and after contact? Thanks
Man you got it right. Honestly everybody else on the internet should leave and let you have the whole thing to yourself. There would be far better players today and tomorrow out here. Thank you so much bravo bravo
Thanks for the awesome content as always! I have a doubt regarding the clean contact... I use an esastern- semi western grip to hit my forehand, the thing is that I sometimes feel more confortable going more in the eastern side and when the aceleration or intensity of the hitting goes up, I tend to go more on the semi western side, is this something that happens to you guys or I have to stick to the exactly same grip always to escalate my level?
Great video! I have a tendency to miss hit the forehand so much it’s quite annoying... 😅 I hit w a more extreme semi western grip lots of topspin (maybe too much)... but I desperately need to improve my cleaner consistent contact, then my game would improve a ton..
Watched this video for the third time in 48hrs. Can you give me some advice on how to avoid racket face open at contact? I’ve been struggling with this problem. Thanks 🙏🙏🙏🎾❤️
Really good. When covid is in the past you should do workshop in London, i'll sign up. More on single handed backhand and first step for returns... Great!!!!
Thank you for another excellent video! Sorry if I missed it in another video but what about racket angle at contact? It looks like you use a semi-western forehand grip which appears to gives your racket a slight tilt ( / ) at contact but it's very hard to see even in slow motion.
I like the house analogy - great for kids learning the game. I also like a “box” analogy. Pretend there is a box in front of you to help visualise your contact zone. How does racquet enter the box and exit the box. Walter is great too!
