In this video, Walter Preidikman, a professional tennis coach, is going to share how can we deal better with a high and really heavy topspin. One of the most significant weapons in a tennis player's arsenal is topspin. We're going to learn what is the top spin, what is the ball rotation there, what happens when the ball touches the ground, where is our best position to impact that ball, and the right technique for every different position. Most people struggle with heavy tennis topspin. But no more! This video will help you deal with it much easier.

I feel like this channel does such a good job of focusing on fundamentals, not necessarily technique. So many channels focus on backswing, lag, aesthetics, etc. You do such a good job focusing on what's actually important.

A truly high heavy ball climbs up the back fence at many public courts unfortunately. Not enough back court real estate to allow ball to drop into strike zone.

I like the idea that whatever you decide, make sure the ball allows you to make that decision and don't try to force it. Great tips, both to hit the ball early and to be humble, go back and hit it with time from behind.

Yes. I am preaching that a lot in the channel. Whatever you want to do, the ball needs to allow you to do so

Excellent, clear explanations, I plan to try this out this week. For me you gave me some clear ideas to implement: 1) Even though the ball is high we still want to hit it in our strick zone, i.e. not at shoulder height this means, 2) move up to hit it on the rise as it moves into our strick zone, or move back to hit it as it comes down into our strick zone. I never thought of it like that, I either took the ball early almost like a half volley, or high at my shoulder. I am looking forward to giving this a try, great job. Thanks

I made a competitive high school team as a freshman and it was super different, all the older guys had crazy topspin even on lower balls, much more than I was used to, so I struggled dealing with it. Im trying to get that for myself and learn how to deal with it

First off you are a very good tennis player. I’m working towards the 5.5 level and notice how better players than myself tend to loosen their hands and get a better racket head drop than myself on the two handed backhand. Any thoughts on how you were able to make your two handed backhand racket head drop feel more similar to your forehand? Keep up the good work. 💪🎾🔥

@@MyTennisHQ A quick question, is it bad to hit those heavy high topspins or will you get labelled a moonballer? Not if it's your only shot I might add.

Really nice video. Does it be possible to create a video how to handle short balls. How do I attack these balls better. Beeing in a forward movement isn't so easy to keep the right technic as from the groundstroke. Regards from Germany. I hope my English is good enough to know what I mean

Your channel is great some of the best info and tennis lessons on youtube. One thing i want to point out is that when the coach feeds the balls to the student they are nothing like the ones in a tennis match. I think this should change. Because hitting slow balls with same height is easy and we all can cream these balls but when it comes to actual matches with high balls junk balls deep balls slices top spin running shots omg it is like playing a totally differeng game and it is super frustrating not being able to make a good shot of that ball . Shots that are hit in a match this should be trained not the same clean comfortable shots 1000 times over. This in general. Otherwise your knowledge of the game is on another level thanks a lot for sharing.

Great video, thanks a lot for the tips! As you mentioned the "high elbow finish" specifically when demonstrating the forehand on the rise, I was wondering what the differences are to the other finishes. Lots of pros finish across their chest most frequently, others prefer more over the shoulder finishes and sometimes you see crazy finishes around waist level. Could you explain in which situation you would use which type of finsh?
@MyTennisHQ
@MyTennisHQ 3 года назад
It's not situational. Top Players have different ways of finishing their stroke. Thiem is super high, Monfils low. It's personal preference. But high finishes are typically much better for amateurs so the racket moves the appropriate way.

The one-handed backhand often gets a bad rap against high, heavy top spin. I personally love hitting those and send that ball back with even more top spin à la Gasquet. I'm 6'2 so it helps.

Dude, moon ballers that hit with heavy spin are the worst (junk ballers I guess?). Easy to beat them with the positioning shots you mentioned in an earlier video. Just position with the junk ball, and go for it on the return.
