REALLY REALLY wish there was times where you could tell the dwarfs what to do Directly lol... But not being in control of it is a part of the fun! (sometimes) lol.

some stuff is still pretty stupid like: wall of the caverns and the dwarfs wall themselves in and getting killed or simply starve to death xD

A request for a related tutorial is what to do with all the discarded clothing.

I usually sell them, more to get rid of it than to actually acquire something. Sometimes they fetch quite a value. If FPS is the priority, don't wait for them to rot and be erased in a refuse pile like Tarn intended - throw them on magma.

1:50 into the vid and I realise why all my pigtails are rotting and I cant make cloth XD ah, its the little things...... so, process plant, NOT spin thread :P

Yeah, I keep checking up the Wikipedia for details like these as well. Sadly the games UI doesn't give you that much well perceivable feedback.

Hi, you can allso produce (any) "Metal Cloth" at the Loom and "Adamantine Clothes" at the "Metal Smith Forge"... But well Adamantine is super Rare... anyway like the Video 👍

I almost always focus on plant cloth, and almost always use surface farming. Rope reed is almost guaranteed, and you can see it on kitchen screen. But if possible, I go for hemp, cotton, linen or kenaf, as their inevitable ever growing piles of seeds can be used to make oil and soap. From all these, I like cotton and linen the most, as I do not want flour milled from plant cloth, like with hemp and kenaf. . If roleplaying, I usually go for cotton, as it's probably the most soft from all the real life plants in DF.

4:07 I think there are some other animals that have the right hide for thread. I have Yak hair thread in my fortress for example. Horses MIGHT work, though I don't know for sure. You may have to butcher the animal to get it, unlike with the ones you mentioned since I don't think the sheer command works on them. (I could be wrong.)
@Ic0nGaming
@Ic0nGaming Год назад
Thanks! I was only referring to the animals I was sure to give wool
@CATASTEROID934
@CATASTEROID934 Год назад
Some animals have hair tissues that when long enough/have large tissue enough volume produce one or more hair items upon being butchered, large domestic animals like adult horses, donkeys and yaks often will. Tissues viable for marking the animal as available for shearing jobs have to be marked specifically as shearable
@masaufuku1735
@masaufuku1735 Год назад
Note that while hair can be used to make thread, it can't be used to make cloth.
@CATASTEROID934
@CATASTEROID934 Год назад
@@masaufuku1735 Usually it isn't too much of an issue if you have access to webs in the caverns or rarely on the surface, wool-bearing animals or fiber crops in the form of pig tails, hemp, flax, ramie, kenaf, etc (or adamantine if you don't immediately use the smattering you can get without dealing with the associated thugs). The automatic weaving option being on by default tends to wind up with all other forms of thread being processed into cloth leaving only hair thread which tends to filter into hospital chests as ligature for suturing.
@arthurbarros5189
@arthurbarros5189 Год назад
Horses do have spinable hair (I memorized because It's my prefered suturing thread).

BIG QUESTION !!! What happens if you embark and there is 'spiderman' silk webs one the surface :( I was too afraid to find out if spiderman would get angry at me harvesting, living in area, or possibly join me? can that happen?
@Ic0nGaming
@Ic0nGaming Год назад
I haven't found any 100% sure info but: The surface spiders avoid combat if possible. I don't know if that translates to the humanoid version of these as well. My approach would be training military first and then start collecting. Squish Spider Man if necessary. Spider People can actually be part of civilizations, but I really haven't dipped my nose into how to socialize wild people on your map yet. Hope some other commenters know more than me in that regard.
@arthurbarros5189
@arthurbarros5189 Год назад
I think Surface silk is best collected as soon as possible. Rain take sit aways, doesn't it? . They're still not as valuable as Giant cave spider silk, nor as cool as forgotten beast silk, but still counts for strange moods.

@arthurbarros5189
@arthurbarros5189 Год назад
@@Mel-mu8ox It means there are spidermen in the biome's population. I think there are agravation mechanics, for wildlife getting angry, but I am not sure. I don't think the game tracks if you get the silk, I really doubt it.
