This was awesome! I love how with each cup you got more giddy 😂 I bought the coffee brew buddy on Amazon for tomorrow night, my first backpacking trip of the season 🎉 so excited! Loved the bloopers at the end!
Been watching your videos for a bit now, I really enjoy your enthusiasm and upbeat personality when you are explaining things. Makes the videos fun to watch. I am looking to get into back packing for the first time this year. Bought a fair amount of gear so far, now I have to use it, LOL. I bought the forth one after watching one of your other videos, can't wait to use it for the first time.
Awesome, thank you Moose! Glad your getting back into backpacking...great way to spend your time! The great thing about hiking/ backpacking is you get to go at your own pace and do what works for you! "Keep Hiking!"
Thanks so much, I didn't know about the GSI ultralight version - I'll be adding that to my gear - love you can see how much is going into the cup to avoid overflows!
I am using the "GSI Ultralight Java Drip". It's great! Once you brew your coffee, you remove from the cup, you shake it out and let it dry while eating and enjoying your fresh coffee. But for a future edition, I wish they would make the mesh even smaller, to get an even slower and better brew, but especially less coffee particles getting through.
Yeah...that one and the collapsible GSI work really well...the ultralight is hard to beat...a finer mesh would be a good idea/ maybe 2 mesh types to choose from!
I have a couple of the GSI collapsible pour over I love them so much - I use one for traveling so I can have my favorite coffee at hotels & one I use camping - tad heavy for backpacking but I take it on short weekend trips. superb for car camping. bang for buck great & durable I've been using mine for years.
Love the smell of coffee, I can't swallow it. Tea is lighter, and you can vary the strength , an awake all night or just just s refreshing brew. Save on equipment, GOOD VIDEO KEEP THEM COMING!
I tried some of them but prefer the Primula because you can make it much darker if wanted. Since it's straight into the cup...you can leave it in for a stronger coffee. But they will ALL work well.
thanks for the awesome review and the even awesomer coffee puns, lol!!!!!! i just ordered one of them, i think the primula coffee buddy!! can't wait to make coffee and tea on the trail...!!!!! now you just gotta review compact trail pizza ovens!!!! =)
Maybe I'm a heathen, but when I don't do instant I have a little Topps tea infuser that's a fine mesh filter attached to a plastic handle. I put the grounds in, stir until I'm happy with the strength, and if I want it stronger I dump and add fresh grounds. For less than $5 and 2 oz it does just fine.
That's awesome...sounds like you've perfected your coffee system...anything with hiking/backpacking has to work for you and you alone...so no your not a heathen!
Loving that fourth one! With a filter, you have ultralight weight and easy cleanup. Dishes in the morning is the last thing I want to do. :) Thanks for the idea!
Your channel is getting expensive for me LOL Just bought the GSI Ultralight. Was looking at a couple different ones but showing that it can stash under the fuel canister put it over the top for me. Thanks for another great video, Chris! BTW, *loved* the Harlen Williams line...
I'm more of a tea drinker, but I do enjoy coffee, especially with friends. But, I've always used Starbucks instant packets, which is very bitter. I'm a newbie to this hiking & camping world. I've been watching numerous and numerous of videos since last July. I am finallizing my gear. I will start wisely with a weekend trip. I will have to give this cofee camping a try. Thank you for the demonstrations!
Great video, lots of ideas. I will say not sure if the brand was in fact the Primula brew body or a knock off but it did mold on me over time so definitely make sure it's fully dry. Going to try the silicone next bc its much easier to dry.
My favorite on the trail coffee is the gsi pocket rocket. Fill it to the 8oz mark and let it run. No baby sitting like other pour over systems. Also only $10
My coffee set consists of a Vargo Titanium Coffee filter and a 700 ML Toaks Titanium cup keep in the Toaks stuff sack. Both items are easy to clean and I use coffee grounds from home. Allowing me to have the same cup out camping that I would be having at home.
Hey Chris! Good day to you sir! I fill #4 filters with the preferred amount of coffee and tie it up like a tea bag. Steep it while water heats up or after for preference. Clean up is easy. On long adventures ill carry Vinacafe - 3 and 1 instant packets it has the sugar and creamer already in it and is well balanced not to sweet and not to bitter with a strong flavor. 2 packets in one 12oz cup taste so good and when you wake up upside on the ground it so easy to dump the packets into the warm water and have very little clean up. 4:40 BAHAHAHA!!!!!!! PAL!!!
Hi Tim, I like that with the #4 filter tied up like a tea bag. definitely like the easy clean up...I keep coming back to the GSI coffee makers too! Thanks for watching, Pal!
@@basecampchris GSI makes really good products I use the Halulite MicroDualist II, Two-person Cookset when I go alone I take out the second persons cups and put the fuel can inside the pot. and my Jetboil Might Mo fits inside the cups with its stand.
Nice Chris! People I hike with think I spend more time drinking coffee than actually hiking. I use a Nanopresso. I know it's a bit bigger and weighs more, I just find it easier to clean\pack out and give me an easier, tastier cup than most pour overs. Keep up the great content!
Huge difference between using the number four coffee filter and using the built-in metal screen at the bottom. The coffee filter with the oven bottom works great, you get a cup of coffee in a minute or two. If you go with the screen on the bottom and no filter, it will literally take you 10 minutes to get a cup of coffee and by then it'll be cold so forget about doing it with the metal screen.
I tried the sea to summit and had zero luck. Screen kept popping out, could never get decent flow through it even grinding pretty coarse, and it would never fold up right. Got the GSI ultralight and I love that little thing, now to find a nice and portable grinder
Like seeing the 4 different coffee drip devices in action. Been using the Folgers single serve coffee bags (like a tea bag) for out in the sticks. Some of the Scout Leaders in our Troop use a coffee press, but I really don't like the idea of carrying that extra weight while backpacking. Great coffee, but the weight... These items seem like a great alternative! Thanks for sharing & keep Getting Your Goat On! ;)
I use a hemispherical screen that fits into my cup. The comments section will not let me post a picture of it. Very light. I do toss the grounds , sometimes into the ubiquitous fire pit, on the premise that it is just more burnt plant matter.
The Primula Brew Buddy is only $3.97 ea at Texas HEB stores! I picked one up yesterday to use in our Rv when we get one. Going to pick up another now knowing that’s the cheapest place to get one!
Good vid. I bring Mt Hagan instant coffe. Iike it better than Starbucks Via. You should do a vid comparing different instant coffee. There are quite a few that are pretty good.
I love my coffee...Awesome review, I'm always looking for something different to make my coffee with when I'm out in the bush camping or backpacking, my latest device for making coffee is the aero press works good but not very space saving though, I really like a couple of your coffee brewers, thanks for the review...oh and loved the bloopers at the end had me laughing pretty hard...I needed that🤣🤣
Great Video my friend, Just have to have coffee when camping or outdoors..... OK anywhere. Some awesome filters for sure. I may just have to give one a try, Thank you.
Welcome, it's called the Better Houseware Collapsible Tea Kettle, Orange ….it is on Amazon but is out of stock...search around with that name and see what you can find...
My Sea to Summit as is..always clogged and slowed to a point where it wouldn't finish going thru the unit..Filters worked better ..but was still very slow ..results were coffee got cool..didn't work for me..the GSI just works with the filter..no muss no fuss..
I was wondering if you would be ok after drinking all that coffee. Three corny jokes (that I'm totally stealing) and you have an awesome name. Enjoy this like and you have a new subscriber.
Well the longer it takes to pour through it would have more time to cool down...these all seem efficient with the pour through time. But I do like my coffee hot. I usually boil the water not just heat it.
Yes, the instant works well...zero clean up too! I do have to have hot coffee though. My motto..."Coffee's gotta be hot and beer's gotta be cold!!" Thanks for watching!
Ive tried time and time again but alas i just cant drink my coffee black! I blame my granny who made my coffee like hers when i drank coffee with her when i spent time at her house as a boy lol she put cream n sugar in it
It's called the Better Houseware Collapsible Tea Kettle...currently unavailable on Amazon but google search with that name and see what you come up with.
You talked about burying your coffee grounds elsewhere or in a cathole - this is not LNT compatible, and the I think you should take forest service LNT regulation into account: www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fsbdev2_038035.pdf Always pack out your biodegradable food waste. The caffeine can damage plant and insect life. when it seeps into the soil and water.
Usually I just put it in a zip lock ( i carry extra zip-locs in my bear canister ) ...but good point I'll emphasize the specifics of the LNT principles...thanks.
Backpackers and coffee are absurd. Use the instant coffee pack and stop carrying more kitchen gadgets, thinking you're a real backpacker. (i'm saying that in general, not to Chris). If you drink coffee every other day of the year, there's no reason why a person can't "survive" on a packet of instant coffee.
