This is so cool! I have those wooden tiles that I bought for another project. I wanted to amplify your warning about using an exacto knife. Plan your cuts so that if you slip, the blade will hit something else or go off in a safe direction. This bit of advice was given to me decades ago and has served me well.

Nice! With enough of these including some with special locations/features you could create a themed deck to be revealed randomly in a solo game or with a group.

NICE! 👍 Very tactile & interactive. Also saves the DM from providing a map to the players & if they wanna can use their phones to take pictures and later make their own map! Also nothing stop you from making a digital hex map, printing it out & pasting it to the blocks. If you lack drawing skills...

wood or plywood units are pretty nice for the tactile feedback from the tabletop game today. but once I found my own hex design using the magnetic paper sheets and cut them with the scissors only the way I need - thiner units, more detailed shape, easy to modify, good looking on the fridge also^^ on the top of it you may use acrylics, gouache, markers, liners, whatever you want, even some printed textures before the cut out...

The hex tiles you link to are IIRC the same size as the ones in Games Omnivorous’ Hex Toolkit, meaning I can use all those and my own hex tiles together!

Awesome job! I do have an idea that maybe you could incorporate. Have a piece of thin sheet metal and put adhesive-backed magnet paper on the underside of the tiles. Then you can just place the magnetic tiles on the sheet metal and they won't slide around. I do this with other crafts already and it works great! Plus, the magnet paper is actually pretty cheap.

A few years ago, I picked up some blank hex-shaped cards for pretty cheap. I had an idea for a card & dice board game. I never got the idea to the point of actually using the cards. Maybe I'll re-purpose them for this!

Honestly, if it wouldn't be too bothersome, you could even turn them into reversible tiles. Generic terrain on one side, campaign specific on the other and then reveal them as your players scout out tiles.

I really like that idea. The generic side could also have "known" features, like a city or something. The other side could have the hidden features, like an entrance to a dungeon or something.

I think with a Cricut Cutter or a laser cutter or engraver you could print the tiles to be cut out. I also think a 3D printer you could make them. It'd be cool to see experimentation and what could happen.

You said if you can write the alphabet you can make maps, it would be cool to draw a map with only English letters, might be hard to read but I can see it looking cool.

Nice work. Have you seen Bottled Sea or Undying Sands, published by exalted funeral? That creator (Andre Novoa) had a KS for "Hexcrawl Toolbox", which is a similar idea.
