How To Make Dehydrated Mandarins / Preserve with Dehydrator
Preserving the abundance of Mandarin Oranges, that are on the tree, at the end of winter and early spring makes perfect sense to me.
We have spent the winter enjoying the Mandarins fresh, keeping our bodies fuelled with daily vitamin C and it's time to preserve the rest, for variety and convenience, for the rest of the year.
Heating Citrus, destroys the vitamin C, however there is still fibre, Vitamin A and other nutrients contained in the fruit, making it a good snack or addition to breakfast, desserts and baking.
Temperature for dehydrating Mandarins is 135F or 57C
The variables in dehydrating Times are:
- All machines are different
- The size and juiciness of what you are dehydrating
- The Temperature and Humidity of the room you are dehydrating in
So times are going to be different for you and you just have to be sure there is no moisture in your fruit before you store it in the air proof container.

Welcome to Moat Cottage Homesteading, I'm Elissa and here at Moat Cottage, we raise and grow and process some of our own free range meat, organic vegetables and fruit. We grow all of our herbs for both eating and medicinal purposes as well as hunt, fish and forage. We preserve our produce for the year ahead by canning, dehydrating, fermenting and freezing and we work on being prepared for emergency situations. We don't like plastic, chemicals and artificial fragrances and are trying to live an older style life, balanced with this modern world lifestyle.

Thanks for sharing. My old employer said they wouldn't rehire me because I'm too slow for their liking. I'm in the middle when it comes to speed and a hard worker. I wonder why they don't fire the slackers who just stand around and talk. I looked up jobs for slow people. What I can do the soonest is transcription or data entry remotely. First I need a piece of my standing desk (it's made of three five-drawer chests but right now only have room for one of them), a new desktop (my laptop stopped holding a charge, some of the keys have faded away, and it doesn't have enough memory to update; technically I need 3 USB inputs), and for transcription they recommend a foot pedal to easily move the audio along. I could be a personal organizer but I'd have to get us a vehicle and start my own company as there are no jobs for that here. I'd also be a good librarian but they didn't hire me. Well at least if I work from home I won't have to worry about transportation, wouldn't have a dress code (I'm allergic to polyester, nylon, and rayon), and could spend more time with Lee and our son Daniel.

Ive never done mandarins but now im thinking about it , they would make a delicious addition to a dried fruit mix for snacking or adding to fruit cake. Ive got dried mandarin peels that i did for my tea mixes but we just aren't fond of them so im going to use them for fire starters next winter. The dehydrated slices of orange stayed so bright and fresh , im really happy with them . A delicious freshness to teas . I dipped some in dark choc and none of us were fond of that flavour but i have a friend who really enjoyed that , it would make a great little gift for her soon 😊 Obe dehydrated food that suprised me that we use a lot is mushrooms. I have found so many meals that can use them and we ran out quite quickly. I must make double this time. Thank you for ideas for dehyating lovely ❤❤

They certainly a good investment and they can live in large pots for years.

Place mandarins on a suitable rack, on a baking tray. Turn oven onto the lowest setting, a wooden spoon to hold the door ajar is often recommended, to keep temperature at correct temperature. Oven needs to be at 135F or 57C. It can take 8 to 19 hours, depending on humidity, oven, ambient room temperature, size and juiciness of what you are dehydrating. I find this method to be costly, for my situation, but this depends on what fuels your oven and the cost of that fuel.
